Why I don't trade time for money...

Why I don't trade time for money...

I remember being a site manager in the construction industry and struggling to switch off after a long days work. Most days I would get home wanting to just sit on the couch and do nothing!

I was always first onsite and last to leave, leading by example and teaching the crew that if you put in the TIME, you reap the rewards...

I was wrong!

After a few years repeating this mantra, I took a birds eye view and really analysed this TIME thing... I reminded myself that our time is truly limited and once we use it, we cannot get it back.

What is the reward I'm getting from all this time spent?

And so I wrote down everything I did in the 168 hour week we are all given (time is the fairest commodity in the world)

No surprise that the majority of my time was work related.

Then I looked at what the rewards were for each area.

Sleep was the second most time consuming activity and the benefits go without saying, however I will admit my sleep quality was not the greatest.

In terms of the 3 main areas Health, Wealth and Relationships, overall things were not the best. I didn't have time to create a healthy diet or exercise routine, I didn't have time to grow social, family or personal relationships, I didn't have time to learn about how to invest my money.

I quickly realised that I was tricked! Built on false beliefs passed on from others stuck in the rat race. Programmed to fit the system, instead of being in control of my life and goals.

That's when I decided to change... get control back, get freedom back, and best of all... TIME!

Don't get me wrong, Entrepreneurship is not easy, it still requires time and energy, however unlike a job, you have control over when and how you use your time and energy. And when you get it right, the rewards you reap are exponentially greater than the work you put in.

Well put Jim, your so right I think I've missed out on a hell of a lot with my kids growning up because we think its impossible to leave site or just to take time out. I've actually learnt now though just to step back and take time out because as you we have to, but you still cant help no think of the project at hand
