Why I Don't Care About Book Sales
Patricia Wooster
I help experts write books and design cohorts. ?? 19x Bestselling author, 150+ book coaching clients since 2016, cohort creator, & strategist. Future-proofing executives, entrepreneurs & consultants.
Welcome to this week's edition of "Your Mindset To Millions", where we discuss how to monetize your expertise through book publishing, speaking, programs, and entrepreneurship.
Over the years, I've conducted many discovery calls with people who have just finished writing their books.
And this one statement usually catches them off guard and turns many of them into clients (once explained) . . .
?? I DO NOT CARE ABOUT BOOK SALES.
I never open my Amazon sales report or the one sent to me from Simon & Schuster.
Never ever, ever, ever. Whatever that report says is irrelevant to me and my business. I don't write books to make $3 per sale. My time and energy is more valuable than that . . . and so is yours.
Most people do a combination of the following items and end up exhausted, frustrated and disappointed in the results (and financially tapped out):
Most people drop the ball at this point by considering their book a big failure and losing trust in the process and their book.
?? Here is the typical sequence of events when writing a book:
There are two major problems with this plan:
??The author ONLY creates a plan for the book vs. a strategic plan for their business.

?? The author ONLY measures their book’s success by the number of book sales.
Whereas if you leverage your book into other products and services, you better serve your ideal audience AND you are not dependent on the number of books sold to make money.
?? Imagine one reader converting into over $100, $1000, or even $10,000 for your business - this happens for our clients all of the time.
?? Imagine one email to one person converting into 50, 100, or 1000 book sales - this is the first marketing strategy we deploy with clients.
Having a plan that converts readers into clients reduces the need to sell thousands of books because the LTV (lifetime value) dramatically increases, along with the impact you can have on each reader.
For example, During COVID-19, I was approached by Amber, who had written and published her book. She was focused on traditional sales tactics (social media, ads, selling 1-to-1) and was frustrated with her results. Instead, we created workbooks, workshops, and an online training curriculum that she was able to package and sell to entire school districts. She now sells Many-to-One (school contact) with a much higher LTV. And because she works with a concentrated group, her impact is incredible because she teaches many people vs. 1:1.
I really loved working with Patricia because she helped me to create an international strategy to monetize my books. Because I live in Hong Kong, I was so grateful for her insight into the market in the U.S.. She helped me to create a digital program and an ecosystem around my books That also includes online sessions and lots of different strategies for me to target my audience. - Amber Le Scelle
Bottom Line: If you are not a fiction writer, then it is time to stop using fiction strategies to market and sell your nonfiction books. They will not work for most people. You need marketing plans that use business strategies to get real results. So, if you are getting ready to launch or launch with lackluster results, then think about how you can leverage your book to create a real impact for your reader and bottom line.
Whenever you're ready, there are 3 ways I can help you:
1. Schedule a call to discuss how we can help you write and leverage your book to gain authority, sales, and leads for your business.
2. Write a book that positions you as a market leader, while learning everything you need to know about writing, publishing and positioning your book with our Write Impact Book Academy.
3. Schedule a 1-hour coaching call to create a strategic plan for your next step.

2 个月This is sooo accurate! So many people I know have faltered because of exactly this. My next book is tied into workshops and courses, even though I have no idea what I’m doing, my long game is to have it in as many hands as possible for impact vs money. We should probably talk ??
