Why I Do Not Miss The Classroom
Do I Miss The Classroom??
I get asked this question on a regular basis and honestly, no I don’t.
It could be argued that working 5 days a week, with 13 weeks off per year is a great gig but the reality is the hours are long and you tend to work well into the evenings and through your holidays (and I mainly taught PE!)
The best part of being a teacher is seeing the children develop and grow as people over time. It’s made even more special if you are fortunate enough to build positive relationships with their families.
The brilliant thing about being a Head Coach is that this is exactly what we do at FFF.
We use the beautiful game to build relationships and equip children with the transferable skills to succeed in life.
It’s mega when I see a child who may have been quite shy and nervous absolutely flourish, make progress and even help new children settle in.
The work-life balance of being a Head Coach is a key reason why I love what I do.

When I joined The Football Fun Factory I knew immediately that this was ‘it’. It gave me the freedom that I’ve always wanted but also the opportunity to work in an industry that I love. I also get to focus on hobbies and pastimes that I wouldn’t have been able to if I was teaching.
A huge difference, which some see as a taboo subject, is money. I am earning more now than I did when teaching. Granted I have greater responsibility in that I am operating my own business but we all want to earn a healthy living to look after ourselves and those around us.?
The main reason that I do not miss the classroom is the incredible family time that I now have.
Today is the perfect example. It has been brilliant so far. I was woken up by my boy jumping on me! I then went for a run to start the day with some exercise, which was followed by some precious time with my son and girlfriend.?
I ended the morning with a short meeting followed by some admin and we have an exciting afternoon lined up for some family time.
Today is a non-coaching day for me but the only real difference would be that I'd pop out and coach in the evening with a few extra admin tasks.
If I was still teaching this would never have been possible. I get to be there for breakfast every morning with my son (unless I’m out the door early for a round of golf on my day off!) and I get to be around my family so much more than I would be if I was teaching.
I wouldn’t change a thing about being a Head Coach and I very much doubt I'll be returning to the classroom anytime soon!
