Why I do contribute as a mentor in Professional Mentoring Program

I have just signed up again to take part in the next Professional Mentoring Program 2022 at the University of East London UEL Career Zone.

It’s been years now since the first time that I have participated in the Professional Mentoring Program at the University of East London.

Why do I participate in Professional Mentoring?

I believe that it is our duty as professionals to reach back to the next generation and help them.

I love this quote by Denzel Washington. “Don't just aspire to make a living, aspire to make a difference."

I also enjoy taking part in mentoring programmes as I enjoy sharing what I have learned from my career journey, I didn’t have a career coach when I was a student, so I really struggled in my career in order to get where I want to be, so I don’t want any other student to go through the challenges that I went through, which could have been avoided if I had career guidance.

I love mentoring students at universities to help them before they enter the professional field. My advice to you all university students to enrol into the Mentoring Schemes don't just focus on your studies, you need to learn more about your career path and skills before you graduate. The University gives you so many opportunities to look out for them and make use of them.

It is a one-stop-shop, that provides the students with a support network that enables them to grow and develop from their first few weeks through to employment. The students are given support to stay on track, succeed academically and secure graduate-level employment or further study.

It is a two-way learning path.

I must admit I have gained a lot from this experience.

Not just that it keeps us the professionals UpToDate with the challenges the students are facing, but it keeps that communication between the generations going. That we are all together in this.

Since the first time that I have taken part in professional mentoring years ago it has inspired me to have my own professional career coach and a professional mentor, I cannot recommend it enough that having a professional coach and a mentor can make a massive difference in your career journey.

I love this quote by Dr Maya Angelou “When you learn, teach when you get, give.

As a university Alumni if you can make a difference, please do help the students you never know whom you might inspire, and you can make a huge difference in their careers.

What an inspiring read, Aida. Thank you for sharing the article and for the dedication you give to the programme ??
