Why I didn't accept the challenge to post a black and white picture of myself on instagram.

Have you seen the black and white photos of women posted on instagram with the #challengeaccepted post What is this about?

the challenge began after the killing of 27-year-old Pinar Gutelkin, a turkish woman, by her boyfriend. The challenge started to shed light on the high number of women killed in Turkey. Turkish women wake up everyday to see black and white photos of women being killed on their instagram feed, in the newspaper and on the news. This kind of murder is called #femicide.

Like most of you, I got tagged to post a picture of myself in black and white with the hashtag #challengeaccepted and I DID NOT DO IT. And here is why.

As much as I appreciate the gesture and the intentions behind it, I also know that the mere act of posting a black and white photo of ourselves is a great gesture to inspire others and truth be told it makes us feel good about ourselves that we are part of something cool. But it doesn't change anything.

My question though is this : what are we actually doing to empower women? Do we have to wait for a #femicide to happen to support one another? Are we doing anything to support one another?

I know so many women trapped in bad marriages but can't get out becoz of their kids and becoz of their financial dependence. I know so many single women who can't leave home and live life on their terms because they don't have financial resource.

And this is why as of last week, I committed to doing more post and lives inspiring entrepreneurship and teaching women how to convert their passion into purpose and purpose into profit.
