Why I Coach: Stories from WE-Q Practitioners

Why I Coach: Stories from WE-Q Practitioners

Coaching is more than just a profession or a job. It is a calling that requires a deep sense of purpose and passion for helping others.

Today, Learning in Action is celebrating the first day of International Coaching Week, happening from May 8-14, 2023, with a special series we call “Why I Coach.” In this series, Learning in Action’s WE-Q Practitioners share their stories on why they are passionate about what they do — coaching.

We recently had the pleasure of hearing from three Learning in Action’s WE-Q Practitioners, each with their unique story and reasons for pursuing this career. Their insights have reaffirmed our belief that coaching is not just a transactional relationship between coach and client but a transformative journey that impacts both parties involved.

Natalie McVeigh, a coach for family businesses and executives, states that she is driven by the desire to support her clients in tapping into their capacity and competency. She believes in engaging with her clients' emotions and physiology to understand their unique challenges and find ways to turn them into strengths. Natalie's coaching approach focuses on helping her clients thrive, and she finds fulfillment in witnessing their transformational journeys.

Fernando Lopez, another coach, and consultant, shares a more personal reason for why he coaches. He says that coaching provides him with a space where he can be himself and create emotional honesty with another person. Fernando believes that deep change starts with being completely honest with oneself, which can be challenging to do alone. Thus, he sees his gift as creating a safe environment where his clients can explore their emotions and thoughts without fear of judgment. Through his coaching, Fernando helps his clients unlock their potential by helping them achieve emotional clarity.

Bonnie Hovel, a coach with a passion for nurturing her clients' life journeys, sees coaching as an opportunity to help individuals find peace and contentment in their lives. She acknowledges that everyone has unique life experiences and seeks to understand each person's search for meaning. Bonnie believes in the power of reflection and sharing concepts and tools that help her clients transform their thinking patterns. She recognizes that change is a process and that progress in the right direction is what matters. Bonnie approaches coaching with utmost respect and compassion, supporting her clients at the moment and being a positive influence in their lives.

In summary, coaching is not just about providing solutions to problems. It's about creating a safe space where individuals can be their authentic selves, confront their fears and limiting beliefs, and embrace their unique qualities. Coaches empower individuals to thrive and make choices that serve them better. As coaches, we have the privilege of being a part of our clients' transformative journeys, and it's an honor to be able to support them in their pursuit of growth and fulfillment.

Learning in Action is proud to count these amazing coaches among our Certified WE-Q Practitioners.  We train coaches like them to go deeper faster with their clients by using our instrument, the WE-Q Profile to help their clients see what they can’t see about what drives them and what gets in their way.
