Why I Chose an Old-Fashioned Razor?

Why I Chose an Old-Fashioned Razor?

For years, I’ve shaved my head as part of my personal style, a routine that requires me to clean up two to three times a week. Like most people, I used to rely on modern plastic razors. They’re convenient and readily available—but at what cost?

One day, I started thinking about the sheer volume of plastic waste these disposable razors generate. Every blade, every handle—each piece contributes to the growing environmental crisis of plastic pollution. That thought stayed with me, and I decided to make a change.

I switched to a traditional safety razor. Yes, it’s a bit old-school, and yes, it takes a little getting used to. But here’s what I’ve realized: this small adjustment has made a significant difference.

The safety razor lets me simply replace the blade while keeping the rest of the tool intact. There’s no plastic, no unnecessary waste—just a durable, elegant device that gets the job done. It might not be as flashy as today’s high-tech alternatives, but it’s effective, timeless, and far more sustainable.

What surprised me the most was how satisfying the whole experience is. It feels deliberate, intentional—like I’m taking a step back from the rush of disposable convenience and making a choice that actually matters.

This decision may seem small, but it’s a reminder of how even the simplest actions can contribute to a bigger cause. I’m no environmentalist by profession, but I care about the impact of my choices. And if this little change inspires even one other person to rethink their habits, that’s a win.

What about you? Have you made any small but meaningful changes in your daily life to reduce waste or protect the environment? I’d love to hear your thoughts.

In the blade’s old dance, there lies a truth, A simple path, in age and youth. For what is sharp and what is pure, Is found in moments that endure. The razor’s edge may cut away, But nature’s touch will guide the way. When we live close to earth’s embrace, Simplicity takes a gentler pace. The blade may serve, but not to harm, For nature’s grace is always warm. In each choice we make, small and true, The earth reveals itself anew.

I use the old fashioned razor and blades even today. I wouldn’t settle for anything else.
