Why I changed my 2024 resolution?

Why I changed my 2024 resolution?

It was 24th of January 2024, when I flew back from Pakistan after reviewing Royal Academy of Engineering Engg X Projects. These two projects and along with 8 projects in Asia and Africa, I was advising were making excellent progress and regularly sharing their learning and challenges. In addition, I was enjoying co-facilitating various trainings with IMA International and a short assignment with GCIP for Dar es Salaam was about to conclude. Around this time I made a resolution to reduce my work, take it easy, exercise, grow, play badminton and spend more time with my grand children. It was all looking great and possible in January 2024!

In March 2024, the work I was leading for GCIP in Dar es Salaam was appreciated and we were invited to develop a larger programme of work, now called DURP - Dar es Salaam Urban Resilience Project. I felt very fortunate to see full support of FCDO Tanzania and The World Bank in developing this work. As we developed the programme components on food waste, recycling, climate finance, capacity building and ICT-Tech it was looking like a ‘dream project’ - getting all my attention. Between May and July I gave a lot of thinking to my 2024 resolution. Spoke with my family and slowly got absorbed by GCIP-DURP as the team leader, which I am fully enjoying. I was reflecting on the last 11 months and probably never regretted my decision to lead this, as DURP provided an extremely interesting opportunity to contribute to an impact and use my 4 decades of experience. It offered me aspects which I always valued, especially working with young professionals and local stakeholders. I found DURP a listening and reflective project and I enjoyed the freedom of work with the team.

So, what is the learning here? Making a new year resolutions was good, as it helped me in self reflection and gave a purpose. Modifying resolutions may happen and in this case an opportunity came which was close to what I lovingly doing. Overall I worked on the 2024 resolution but at a reduced scale!
