Why I blog...

When I got asked in an interview: "where do you see yourself in five years," my answer was never: "as a blogger." In the last two years, blogging has gone from something I always wanted to do someday, into a real source of income for me. The journey of going from doing it just for fun into part of my job has been amazing. People spend their whole lives trying to figure out a way to have fun and make money at the same time. By golly, I think I'm doing it.
I blog because it is a great way to meet people. The relationships I've cultivated have made all the time blogging totally worth it. I've met more people blogging than anything else I've ever done. I've made new friends. Friends from all over that there is no way I could have ever met doing the things I normally do. I blog because of people like you. Thank you for joining me on this journey!
I write because it is a great way for me to organize my thoughts and share ideas. For years, I struggled with all these thoughts floating around in my head. Most of them never went anywhere. My bosses at work didn't want to hear my ideas. Mostly, they pretended to listen, while on the inside they were thinking, "would somebody quiet down this lunatic." With blogging, there are still those that think I am a lunatic and don't want to hear what I have to say. However, much to my chagrin, I have found that there are a lot of people that are interested in what I have to say and are willing to listen to me.
I've always loved telling stories. I am a sit around the campfire eating smores and tell stories kind of guy. Many of my blogs contain stories. I also love reading them too.
I blog because I like to tell jokes and make people laugh. If you are a regular reader, I hope that at some point I've made you laugh while reading my posts.
I like to help people. With every like, comment, and share on another writer's blog I know that I am contributing to their success. Helping others on their blogging journey is very rewarding. I know exactly how it feels to get that comment or like on a post. It feels amazing! Every-Single-Time. I will never forget the first comment I ever received as I sat there nervously awaiting that initial feedback from a reader all the while contemplating hitting the delete button. Shout out to, Patrick Conti, for being the first person to ever comment on one of my blogs! You really helped me out, man. I greatly appreciate it! To view Patrick's comment click here.
Social media has enabled blogging and brought it to the mainstream. Blogging is a cutting edge communications medium much the way radio was in the in the 1940's and '50s. Being a part of something that is cutting edge is a lot of fun.
I write to challenge myself to continue learning and to challenge others to think deeper, and open their mind to new ideas. I've grown in so many ways as a result of the conversations that have ensued in my blogs. I'd like to think that others have too. Blogging brings thought leaders together and the collaborations that result are special.
I blog so I can spend more time with my family. It affords me a more flexible schedule than a 9-5 office job. My six-year-old has even taken an interest in daddy's blogs. Recently, she has helped me source images. While I didn't go with her suggestion of purple unicorns for this piece, we did have some fun together looking at pictures.
Even if my career takes me down a new path that does not include writing, I will still blog. I found my voice in my blog, and I don't plan on shutting up anytime soon.
