Rotarians are serious change makers in the communities they get involved in. There are few organizations you can compare with Rotary in terms of real impact, global reach and local presence. Before I describe Rotarians let me share a snippet of what they do.
In the African setting we have always been generous and willing to lend a hand to people in need. The Rotary movement is made up of individuals willing to offer their expertise, finances, time and social capital to promote real change in communities in need.
First, Rotary is celebrating 100 years in Africa. The centenary is being celebrated under the theme the magic of Rotary. A couple of events are planned in line with the centenary celebrations. Allow me to describe two events that will be happening on the same day 24th?August 2024 where Rotarians will be doing what they do best, philanthropy.
The Rotarian Cancer Run program that involves District 9212 and 9213 planned for 24th?August 2024. The Rotary regionally are organized in Districts made up of clusters which comprises of individual clubs, and Rotaractors’. Over 30 Rotary clubs from Kenya are going to Kampala in a fund drive to raise funds for cancer care, treatment and awareness in Uganda. Three buses full of Rotarians will leave Kenya in the coming week to participate in a fundraising run for our Ugandan brothers and sisters. Banange, Champala we are coming! In Rotary we do more than we talk and the works of Rotary movements are evident in the projects we fund and the impact in society.
In Rotary we make friends, create networks, travel and promote meaningful change in communities we touch and engage with through empowerment programs. Similarly, on the same day 24th?August, 2024 my Club Rotary Club of Kitengela has organized a medical Camp in Kitengela that will offer medical services to the public at St. Teresa Health Centre. Doctors, laboratory services, drugs and other forms of treatment will be offered to the public free. A team of doctors, pharmacists, laboratory technicians, nurses and Rotarians will be offering their expertise, time, finances and their social capital to ensure the magic of Rotary is felt.

Lastly, I believe you have an idea of who Rotarians are. Rotarians are people with a calling and mission of giving and uplifting communities in need. Rotarians have assisted communities in need of access for water and sanitation through Rotary sponsored projects. Rotarians have assisted persons in dire need of education to access education. Moreover, we assist in health related projects that help improve health outcomes. Of the greatest impact is the goal of Rotary to make the world polio free.
