Why I am not worried about COVID 19 and what Entrepreneurs should be thinking about instead.
Over the weekend, we should probably take a pause from drinking at the fire hose of subjective opinions and small data.
Don't get me wrong - the COVID 19 crisis is a global humanitarian and health crisis. I'm not suggesting that we become collective #covidiots or bury our heads in the sand.
"The natural human tendency is to clutch at certainity or the hope of it, no matter where the hope is anchored"
The reason why we are all trying to become part time epidemiologists in addition to economists and strategists is that our colleagues, families and selves want answers to when this will end and what solutions can help us get there faster.
In the absence of a rational and cohesive answer, we will either accept any logical sounding answer or try and come up with one. This is not a method.
In addition, the daily numbers of infections and deceased and the spread of an epidemic only serve to add fuel to the fire of uncertainty.
We're missing the good news, since the media is focused on giving us the bad news.
Sensationalism has always sold better than dry facts and information that you can base sound decisions on. This is not new.
At a species level:
01. We will solve this problem, just like we have solved for other health scares through the course of humanity.
02. Even if the post COVID 19 environment is dire, as humans, we will adapt to it and come up with ingenious solutions.
03. The economic consequences of this situation are going to be far more serious and complex in the long run.
A health care professional's energy and talent is better focused on providing health-care and sharing the learning with their peers and cohorts.
The same applies to governments, economists and specialists in all domains.
As entrepreneurs, we have an innate skill of sniffing out problems and solving them.
Our unique talents should be put to good use in solving for issues and not an armchair commentary on the general state of the world, where we have neither competence nor influence.
