Why The HSSE Learning Champions Club (LCC)

THE PURPOSE

LCC is a forum for those:

1. Who wish to be part of a continuous learning process

2. Looking to hone their training skills

3. Who wish to collaborate and create more work for themselves and others

After six years of failed efforts to form a community that learns together and collaborates, about six months ago, I finally managed to launch the Learning Champions Club (LCC) with a set of enthusiastic learners. Some of them, I believe, joined the club purely as an act of politeness and for not letting down a friend. But you cannot keep even friends together for long if you don’t offer Value and if they don’t see value in the time, money and energy invested.

As I write this, LCC is still a fledgling community, and I live in the fear that it may dissipate too soon and throw me back to square one. This ‘insecurity’ somewhere makes me push harder to sustain and grow a community and platform, for which I have big dreams and a grand vision.

Having said this, every single meet of the LCC has been invigorating and enriching. In true enter-trainer style, learning with fun is kind of mandatory, with harmless leg pulling and light banter thrown in to add to the ‘party’ atmosphere. We are a set of leaners who are serious about learning with fun. Not every moment is fun, mind you, as members, without inhibition, give ‘ruthlessly honest feedback’ after each session to the presenter. The forum thus serves as an opportunity to improve continuously by understanding one’s strengths and areas for improvement – fortnight after fortnight

The need for continuous learning in a disciplined and structured manner is a problem that is highly understated. People generally understand the value of being a lifelong learner, but only a few are committed to the required rigout and process. LCC addresses this problem by providing a platform to learn, teach, network and collaborate.

As a freelancer myself, my heart goes out to those who keep looking for assignments to keep them fruitfully engaged month after month. My Boss once had told me that trainers are poor team players, as they love the limelight and like to listen to their own voice. So, sharing with fellow trainers does not come easily to them, he said. But I believe in the power of collaboration to multiply our competencies and volume of work. Even the world’s best trainer will be able to deliver just that many programs, which means we as individuals know only so much and can deliver on our own only so much. The answer lies in developing a Collaboration Mindset.

Many learning professionals join business networking groups, which has diverse business representations, to get more work. I too had joined such a forum, and the learning experience was priceless. While that has its own merit, LCC is formed with the intent of creating magic by bringing together learning professionals on to one platform to learn, teach and collaborate without giving up one’s individual space and sense of limelight. It is a group of people doing similar work, and even if they are not doing similar work, they share the passion to learn and grow. The dream of LCC is to become a consortium of sorts of learning professionals.

Collaboration is one of humanity’s greatest leverage. The power of the sum of the parts is limitless. I dream of a day when each LCC member has limitless amount of work because of the forum. I dream of a day when LCC members are contributing to the livelihood of many families because of their unwavering commitment to support and nurture fellow members.

THE LCC BRASSTACKS

The LCC is a virtual platform where members meet twice a month (as of now on alternate Saturdays) from 7 pm to 8.30 pm. Member Speaker Trainers (MSTs) take turns to deliver short modules in each meet. As this is a training skills enhancement platform, we encourage the trainers to conduct at least one activity, so that the sessions are engaging and not a monologue.

LCC is primarily a learning platform where we encourage members to network outside of the forum and figure out ways to refer each other and collaborate.
