Why and how? Zero Trust Security.

Why Zero Trust policy?

Traditional IT security relies on a “blindly trust mentality” trusting anyone inside the network. Zero Trust turns this on its head. Here's why?

  1. Reducing the Attack Surface: By limiting access and constantly verifying users and devices, there's less chances for external attackers to exploit vulnerabilities and gaps.
  2. Increased Breach resolution: Even if a breach/attack occurs, a Zero Trust policy will limit the movement within the network perimeter resulting reduced damage.
  3. Increase Remote Work policy: Zero Trust is ideal for remote workforces, as access is granted based on need and context.
  4. Rock solid Compliance: Zero Trust policy principles will align well with every data privacy regulation.

How Zero Trust policy Work?

Below are the few key features of Zero Trust policy:

  1. Never Trust, Always Verify: Every IT user and device needs a constant verification by Multi-Factor Authentication (MFA) and other available checks.
  2. Minimum Privilege Access: Users only get access to the specific required resources they need for their function.
  3. Constant Monitoring: User activity and network flow and traffic will be regularly monitored for suspicious behavior and activity.

Implementation requirements.

Zero Trust offers significant benefits, while implementing it can be complex. below are some tips to be considered.

  1. Planning: assess your security needs carefully and state clear access control.
  2. Investment: Zero Trust requires new security tools select them wisely.
  3. Workforce Training: Users need to understand the new security protocols and policies and the need to implement it ?and how to use them effectively.

Overall, by understanding the "why" and "how" of Zero Trust, businesses can make decisions about securing their valuable data and assets.
