The “Why” and “How” of Selling to the Government

This month is a BIG month for government sales. During September, the government spends DOUBLE what they do in every other month because it’s the end of their fiscal year.

Surplus funds are being spent right NOW to ensure that agencies use all of their budgets to buy as much as possible to fulfill their budgets before the end of the month. These remaining funds are what we like to call “use it or lose it” funds because if not spent, they won’t be replenished the following year.

If you haven’t started selling to the government yet, here are a few good reasons to start.

90,000 government agencies are in the process of spending $10 trillion…RIGHT NOW.

That’s right, with the additional funds allocated because of COVID-19, government spending is expected to balloon to $10 trillion this year. These funds need to be spent as soon as possible to ensure that the government gets what they need in order to keep running efficiently. While much of our economy slowed down their purchasing, the government actually ramped up. They are set to spend more than they ever have.

The government buys EVERYTHING.

When does the government buy $2 million worth of crab legs or $30 million in batteries? What about $8 million of workout equipment? Right now, the end of their fiscal year. If you sell it, the government buys it. They buy everything. If you don’t believe me, send me a message and tell me what you sell and I will tell you what the government spent on it last year. Seriously, send me a DM.

The government ALWAYS pays.

Sadly, this is not the case for every business. If you’ve been in sales long enough, you probably have had an unpaid invoice or two in your time. This is never the case with the government because they need to spend their funds. Once they agree to a deal, you can rest assured that you will get paid. This is going to be critical over the next year as businesses continue to struggle. We have already seen some long-standing businesses close their doors and many are still struggling. By selling to the government you are ensuring that you are protecting your revenue and your sales in the coming months and years.

I hope I’ve been able to convince you about WHY you should sell to the government, but I also know the hardest part for most people is the HOW. If you don’t know where to start or have questions about growing your sales, I recommend checking out GovSales University. It’s a masterclass program that I’ve put together specifically to help folks get started in selling to the government.

Right now, we’re offering a free strategy session to help you evaluate your business and the opportunities that exist for you if you start selling to the government. You can book your strategy session by clicking the link below!
