Why Hosting Events Is the Key to Building a Strong Community
There's something I didn't realize about the event planning business. It's not something every event space has, but it's a key insight into why this event space is quickly becoming one of the most popular spots in Austin.
First off, I'm someone who moves from place to place, meeting new people all the time, getting invites to join events in different industries, and checking out different circles of influence. I have my core group of friends, but I often wonder what this diverse network is going to turn into one day. In the last few months, I've found a place where I can bring all sorts of connections together under one roof: Highbrow Lowbrow .
Here are the lessons I'm learning by spending more time on the business of this event space and social house in Austin.
When you host an event here, you give community members a sense of ownership and belonging. Everyone who comes to the space experiences it in a special way. The people attending become part of the creative process and have the opportunity to create something together. This is why hosting events at our event space has been so disruptive—it's not just about people coming together, but a subtle and dynamic relationship between those attending and the space itself.
This freedom of creative vision expands past the event itself. It feeds into people's business lives and I love to see it. In our members-only message group, we have members organizing follow-up business meetings at the space early in the week. What I think is happening is these members are leveraging a great night's event and using the place where connection happened as a bridge between social connection and professional connection.
This is why I think having events in the right space really matters—it's not just a place where people can gather, but an environment where creative execution is possible. In our event space, we are nurturing a community of entrepreneurs, creatives, and social connectors that are achieving more than they ever thought possible.
I think this started from the top, with the design of the space, and the continual communication with the community about what we are and are not. Being a 104-year-old house we are antique but we are not lifeless. This space is full of energy. It's like a sunken treasure ship that's been restored to life-you want to be aboard and see it sail, but you know it's delicate and deserves each person to take owner-ship in it. That same energy that happens within, is coming out in the culture and those who become members.
But don't just take it from just me, ask someone if they've been here. They'll tell you.
Instead of competing against all the other bars and venues in town, we've found a long-term business model that supports our owner's mission of becoming a treasure hunter. Crazy and different I know, but it'll explain a lot when you see this place. Events here turn into a movement, and those attending become part of something larger. Last week we had Summit host their community night and one of the attendees said, "when we were here almost a year ago we came up with some incredible ideas for our business."
It's not just about throwing the best party or having the most popular gathering spot. It's about taking it to the next step by providing an environment for meaningful relationships to be created and fostered, as well as creating a space that is unique and tailored to our specific community.
Highbrow Lowbrow is an event space that has found success by providing a safe, creative space for people to come together and build something amazing. We are disrupting the way other event spaces are doing it, and we're proud of it. Events here can be more than just entertainment—they can help create strong and lasting connections that build community and lead to real progress.

It's time you join our movement and see the power of events for yourself. Come down and meet us, we'd love to have you part of our journey.
What I hope to do here is introduce this idea offer to business owners and accounts executives who are already doing things like taking clients our golfing, to sports events, or dinners. Those are genuinely fun activities. But if you want to be different and stand out, try to think bigger. If you need a friend at this place reach out and tell me what you need. I've always loved the idea of being a host. In this business model, it's that mixed with the role of an account executive who loves to see relationships form and grow.
Whether you're looking to create an intimate gathering or launch a large-scale event, there's no denying the importance of hosting events in the right place. Hosting events in our space provides an environment where people can feel safe and supported, as well as an opportunity to come together with friends, family, and colleagues in a meaningful way.
So if you're looking for a place to host your event, think of Highbrow Lowbrow—we believe that events have the power to build strong communities and lasting relationships. We look forward to seeing you here soon!
