Why Homes Don’t Sell

A few weeks ago, I was asked why homes do not sell. There are numerous reasons why they do not, but there are 3 common reasons to speak about.

The first is location. For most homes, this is something that cannot be changed. Often homes were built and later on commercial space was added or some other factor changed.

Another issue is the condition of the home. Many of these things can be fixed but it will cost money. When selling a home, you have to decide how much of an investment you are willing to make to bring the house up to par.

Lastly, the biggest reason a home will not sell is that the house is overpriced. Of course, this can be corrected but you only get one chance to make a first impression.

Your agent should show you a list of homes and what they are selling for. Avoid relying on your own estimation of what your house is worth and trust the data.
