Have you ever noticed that it becomes harder and harder to summon the motivation to get up and get going, the more you keep hitting the snooze button?
In hypnosis there's something we use called Fractionation.
The mechanics of it goes like this - a number of hypnotists noticed that, the more frequently a patient/subject came to them, the quicker and deeper they entered a trance state on each subsequent session.
One day, one of the hypnotists decided to run an experiment - if the subject entered a trance state quicker and deeper with each visit spread over days and weeks, was it at all possible to speed up the process and compress it into just one session.
As a result the hypnotist ran a session with a subject where he repeatedly lead the subject into trance, then raised them back out, before leading them into trance again - he did this repeatedly within the session. Each time the subject went quicker and deeper into trance, compressing weeks-worth of hypnosis work into a single session.
What does this have to do with your snooze button, you may ask?
When you are entering sleep or rousing from sleep, you are experiencing two of the deepest and most powerful natural hypnotic states of your day - before falling asleep is called Hypnagogic, and immediately preceding waking up is called Hypnopompic (this is why revising your goals and performing affirmations etc is best done last thing at night before you fall asleep - those conscious thoughts have the most direct link to your subconscious mind than at any other time of day, making them more powerful).
The more repeatedly you hit the snooze button while you are within the hypnopompic stage of consciousness, the more you are actually sending yourself into a natural trance state, and making it harder to rouse yourself because, if there's one thing I know about hypnosis, it's a freaking lovely calming and stress-free state to be in.
As I asked at the start, have you ever noticed that it becomes harder and harder to summon the motivation to get up, the more you keep hitting the snooze button?
Use the natural hypnagogic conscious state to your benefit, to impress your goals and vision more indelibly on your subconscious mind.
But reduce the likelihood of starting your day lethargic and sluggish and deepening the hypnopompic state by completely forgetting you have a snooze button - get up when your alarm first goes off, and you'll find your day starting with more vigour, enthusiasm and drive.
