Why Hiring for Attitude is More Important Than Qualifications or Experience: Lessons from TravelThru.

When it comes to hiring new employees for your company, it can be tempting to focus solely on qualifications and experience. After all, those are the things that are typically listed on a resume and can be easily compared between candidates. However, I believe that hiring for attitude is just as important – if not more important – than hiring for skills or experience.

At TravelThru, we have always prioritized hiring people with the right attitude – even if they don't necessarily have all the qualifications or experience we might be looking for on paper. In fact, 100% of our HODs are women and 80% of our employees were born after the year 1998. Some of them have just graduated from local colleges, while others started in data entry positions but have since moved up to more important roles within the company.

Of course, that's not to say that we don't value experience or education. But we've found that when we prioritize hiring people with the right attitude, we end up with a team of employees who are passionate about what they do, eager to learn and grow, and committed to the success of our company.

One example that comes to mind is when we were hiring for a new marketing manager position. We received a lot of resumes from candidates who had impressive degrees, years of experience, and all the right certifications. However, after conducting interviews and assessing their attitudes, we found that many of these candidates simply didn't fit in with our company culture. They might have been qualified on paper, but they didn't have the passion, drive, or positive attitude that we were looking for.

Ultimately, we ended up hiring someone who didn't have as much experience or as many qualifications as some of the other candidates we interviewed. However, this person had a hunger to learn, a positive attitude, and a genuine passion for marketing and travel – and that's what set them apart from the other candidates.

At the end of the day, hiring for attitude is all about finding people who share your company's values and are truly excited about the work that you do. When you prioritize attitude over qualifications and experience, you'll end up with a team of employees who are not only skilled and knowledgeable, but also passionate, engaged, and committed to your company's success.
