As you would see a mechanic to tune up your car or a graphic designer to create your branding, you’d seek out a business coach to help grow your business and make life a whole lot easier.
Having helped hundreds of small business owners as a business and marketing consultant [my preferred title over business coach], I can share with you the top reasons why people hire someone like me.
My aim in sharing this with you is so that you have deeper insight into what you can accomplish with the right kind of help and how you can use the right kind of help to enhance your business.?
Keep in mind, you are always going to be the director of your business and the one in charge, so keep yourself in the driver seat and utilise a business coach or consultant in collaboration with your own industry expertise.
Let’s dive in…
1. Results:
The paramount reason I find most business owners will hire a business coach is for results. They’re not looking to simply pay someone to keep them company on the lonely journey of entrepreneurship [although people will do this], there’s usually an outcome they’re after and it’s usually quantifiable.
Increased revenue, increased profit, more clients, better clients, more ease, more time - these are the top outcomes or combinations of outcomes small business owners are often looking for. Clarity and direction are a close second in terms of reasons business owners seek out business coaches.?
As a business and marketing consultant, I love having a clear goal in place with my clients because this frames everything that we do and the strategies we deploy. It also gives us a ‘north star’ to work towards and also a filter or lens to look through - if a new idea or opportunity arises, we can assess whether it will support the achievement of the goal or is simply a distraction.
2. Faster results:
There are results, and then there are faster results and achieving goals in shorter time frames, not to mention with less heartache. The very sentiment of working with a specialist such as a business coach requires that they know their field and area of expertise which then allows you [as the client] to achieve your outcomes much quicker than if you had gone at it alone.
In my consulting business, I love to be the deliverer of results early, it makes you feel like Santa at Christmas! One client I had in particular wanted to achieve a 6-figure revenue goal which would have been her first time achieving this target and she wanted to achieve it within 12 months. She ended up surpassing her goal in our first month of working together and so she then doubled her goal, rightly so.
The shortcuts, the proven strategies, the minimum steps to achieve XYZ goal, these are what an excellent business coach will bring with them to your business so you not only achieve your goals, but you achieve them faster.
3. “You can’t read the label from inside the jar”:
When working for yourself and you’re in the trenches day in, day out, you’ll only ever be able to see what you see, which keeps the cogs turning at your current pace but often no more. When working with a business coach, they’re able to see what you don’t see, which are often the small tweaks that make the big differences.?

This outside perspective can reveal where you’re missing opportunities, losing time, underselling, underperforming etc. As an entrepreneur, you’re capable of so much and having someone highlight to you what their professional expertise sees is worth its weight in gold.
I had a client who was making one critical mistake on her sales calls. After listening to her recordings of these sales calls, I shared what she needed to change. She made the change and as a result she then tripled her monthly sales and I’m certain, she never made that ‘mistake’ again.
In leadership, this is referred to as the Clarity of Distance where there’s enough distance to gain that clarity. This is why we gain so much perspective when we take holidays, because we’ve separated ourselves from the work - but that’s only if you’re taking those holidays ;) [ode to small business owner…].
4. Save time, stress and heartache:
If you want to know what stress and heartache is, start a business! There’s nothing quite like it that will flex every muscle, skill and ounce of will in your body. While a business coach isn’t going to wipe out every problem you will face on your journey, they can most definitely alleviate and even eliminate much of it, putting you on the right track.
For example, when you’re given proven strategies to make more sales, the fact that they’re proven and you don’t need to do laps in trial and error is time and stress saving in itself. You won’t be required to figure it out, test it, re-work it, try it again, or jump onto the next trending marketing strategy - an excellent business coach will save you from all of that.
An excellent business coach is also a great person to run ideas and problems by, they can help you come up with solutions much quicker and remove the endless toying with it in your mind. The faster you can make decisions, conclusions and solve problems the further along you’ll be.
5. Commitment:
My clients don’t come to me saying they want more commitment but they certainly walk away with it and it’s a pivotal trait required if you want your small business to be successful.
The ability to focus, follow-through and stay committed is something all business owners need to work at and when you hire a business coach, you won’t be changing your mind, your offers, your niche, your strategies etc. every two seconds. If you did, you’d be wasting your time, your coaches time and the investment you’re making, so an excellent business coach will help get you on track here.
I have an ethos of ‘no stone unturned’ where we follow through right to the very end and then some. This applies really well with the marketing strategies you use, you’re much more likely to see results when you go deeper with one strategy rather than jumping between multiple or ditching one too early.
If you’d like my help, I’m an award-winning business and marketing consultant for service-based business owners, and I love helping small businesses grow. I work privately with clients 1:1 where we go deep inside your business with all eyes on you. I only work with a small handful of clients at any one time to ensure my clients see incredible results - book your discovery call here to see how I can help you.
Being a small business owner is not just about the sales you make but the traits you forge and I’ll say it, ‘who you become’. Your small business will allow you to evolve into a stronger, better person and working with an excellent business coach can help tighten these levers in yourself and your business so that you can thrive without them working with you 24/7. This is an added perk of working with a coach, YOU get to keep all the IP that you learn along the experience.
