Why higher ed should ask for reviews
Business.Google.com, the quasi-social network from Google that sits on the SERP for all colleges and universities, offers a link to send to people to get reviews.
The link looks like this:?https://g.page/r/CSS0MLSh2Gs6EAg/review?— and will take people who have a Google account to a place to automatically give a review. The aforementioned link is to the Utica Curling Club, where I manage the reviews.
We send the link to people who tried curling, and we get reviews.
Schools should send their link to alumni - former customers, and ask for a review. Asl for 5 stars, ask for a photo – a photo I took of a school and added to my 5-star review of the school has been viewed over 500,000 times.
A well-reviewed place on Google is more likely to pop up on "colleges in my state" searches. It isn't a guarantee, but reviews are a factor in SEO. And even if they aren't a factor, having people say nice things about your school is a good thing.
Speaking of good things, Facebook offers a chance for reviews.
I often talk to schools about consolidating Facebook Pages. If a school asked English department graduates to give a review of the school, and the department on the main page, that would be a more effective marketing message than any English department Facebook Page could ever hope to be. The school might even score a new student who takes English!

We ask a lot of alumni. We ask for their time to volunteer to talk to current students, to attend events, and to sit on councils, to name just a few things. We also ask them for their treasure and tell them even $10 will help. (It helps the behavior schools want to generate in an alum.)
This one is easy.
Review the school on Google, Bing, and/or Facebook. Add a photo. Give the school 5 stars. Or don't give the school 5 stars. It would be good to know the warts.
One last thing that alumni can do. They can subscribe to the YouTube channel. Subscriptions are the fuel for getting videos seen. So ask alumni to subscribe, and smash the bell and select "all".
What do you think? Tell me in the comments if you reviewed your alma mater?
