Why hearing health needs to be on your agenda in 2024
Happy New Year, and welcome to the January edition of Hearing Health Monthly.
In this edition:
Why hearing health needs to be on your agenda in 2024
As the new year starts and a lot of us focus on improving our physical and mental well-being, consider making hearing health a top priority.
Hearing health is extremely important for our work, social lives, and overall well-being. If we neglect our hearing, it can make engaging with the world around us challenging and tiring, causing stress, anxiety, and feelings of isolation. It’s important to monitor your hearing and take all the necessary actions to protect yourself from hearing loss.?
One great way to do that is through the eargym app, where you can check your hearing and play fun training games to help you practice your listening skills.?
Why employers need to prioritise employee hearing health in 2024
We use our hearing every day for work, and sometimes our working environment can put our hearing at risk of damage. It's not just noisy environments either, as even in quiet offices or when remote working, there are still risks. The use of headphones in the workplace has risen sharply, and it’s estimated that 1 in 2 people aged under 35 are at risk of hearing loss due to unsafe listening and headphone use. It’s a crucial time for companies to act, as the impact of hearing loss in the workplace is more serious than you think, with effects on productivity costs, absenteeism, and employee mental health.
Sadly, many of those with hearing loss suffer in silence, due to the stigma attached to hearing loss because of its association with ageing. As a result, people are less likely to raise it as an issue with their employer, due to fears about it affecting career advancement, and a lack of belief that there are the resources to support them. In fact, 50% of people with hearing loss feel concerned about their employer's attitude toward hearing loss and say it has stopped them from being open about their hearing difficulties.?
To help employers support employees, whilst meeting EDI goals,?eargym has launched custom hearing care plans for businesses, providing step-by-step cost-effective hearing care.
