Why Healing Is a Daily Practice, Not a One-Time Event

Why Healing Is a Daily Practice, Not a One-Time Event

There’s a dangerous belief out there, one that keeps people stuck in cycles of pain and disappointment.

It’s the idea that healing happens in a single moment.

Now...

We love stories of instant transformation...

The addict who goes sober overnight The depressed man who finds purpose in an instant. The broken heart that mends with a single conversation.

We crave those moments. We hope for them.

But...

For most of us, That’s not how healing works.

The Truth About Healing

Healing isn’t a light switch. It’s a process.

There are three things that healing is not...

  • It’s not a single breakthrough. It’s showing up every day to do the hard work.
  • It’s not about waiting for the pain to disappear. It’s learning how to walk through it.
  • It’s not a finish line you cross. It’s a commitment you make every single day.

I used to think if I just “got through” a tough season, I’d be fine. I thought if I could just push past the pain, I wouldn’t have to deal with it anymore.

But that’s not how it works.

I had to learn that...

Healing isn’t an event—it’s a practice.

Healing Is a Muscle

Think about physical fitness. You don’t go to the gym once and walk out with a six-pack. You don’t run one mile and suddenly have marathon endurance.

Strength is built through consistent effort.

The same is true for healing.

  • Mental healing means showing up for therapy, reflection, and growth — even on days you feel fine.
  • Emotional healing means learning to regulate your responses, process your past, and create new patterns.
  • Spiritual healing means leaning into faith and trust, especially when it feels hardest.

Healing is a muscle you have to train.

And...

If you neglect it, you'll lose it.

The Power of Small Steps

Most people never heal because they wait for one big moment to change them.

But real transformation happens in the small, daily choices.

  • The choice to speak your truth instead of hiding it.
  • The choice to sit with your pain instead of numbing it.
  • The choice to reach out for help instead of suffering in silence.

Small choices, over time, create radical change.

That’s how I’m healing. That’s how you will, too.

What’s Your Healing Practice?

I have a simple question for you:

What’s ONE thing you can do today to take a step toward healing?

Not next week.

Not when you have more time.

Today.

... Is it having a hard conversation you’ve been avoiding?

... Is it writing down your thoughts instead of pushing them away?

... Is it asking for help instead of pretending you’re fine?

Healing isn’t about doing everything at once.

It’s about doing something every day.

My Perspective...

I used to think healing was something that just happened, that one day I’d wake up and the weight would be gone.

I was wrong.

Healing is a choice. And I have to make it every single day.

Some days, it’s easier. Some days, it’s exhausting. But every day, it’s worth it.

So...

Here’s my challenge to you:

1?? Drop a comment below: What’s ONE small step you’re taking toward healing today?

2?? Share this with someone who needs to hear it. We heal in community.

3?? Message me directly if you’re struggling. You don’t have to do this alone.

Healing isn’t a moment. It’s a practice. And it starts today.

Let’s walk this journey together.

Steven Leapley I love the story in Mark 8:22-26 where Jesus heals a blind man. First, Jesus took him by the hand and led him outside the village. So he didn't heal the man immediately. Second, when Jesus does heal the man, at first the man only saw people who "look like trees walking around." Jesus put His hands on the man's eyes again, and finally his "eyes were opened, his sight was restored, and he saw everything clearly." In this case, the healing was a process.

Thankyou for sharing such a profound message! Self-compassion is vital for growth and healing. Let's continue to support each other on this journey! Steven Leapley
