Why have we started Krock?

I’ve recently conducted a poll on my social media on the struggles professionals in the creative industries face. Not that I did not have a feeling on how the results will turn out, leading an animation studio myself. While giving the options for people to vote, I considered what our studio had the most difficulty with - constant email ping-pongs with client review notes, keeping all the clients informed on the stage of the production process, tracking all the feedback.?

The surprise was how these struggles were distributed - absolutely evenly!

We′ve had the same troubles at the Hound Studio for quite some time. In trying to make our workflow as efficient and automized as possible, we used a handful of different software. Asana and Basecamp for project management, Trello to have all the tasks on hand, Skype for internal and client calls, and Google spreadsheets to keep all data in one place. It was too much. Too many platforms to transfer the files, too many emails, and messages, too many comments to keep track of, too many tools to juggle. Not to mention the total costs. Just Basecamp alone was $99/month, and don′t forget all the software the animation studio uses actually to create animation...?

On average, a small to middle-size media production studio spends at least $500 per month on software. A standard set of apps would be something like Adobe Suite, Trello, Google Docs, Zoom, and Monday or Asana. Now, if we talk about the efficiency of the media production process, we mean cost and time efficiency as well. And it seemed that one could do a little better than a $500 monthly budget and time-consuming switching between the platforms.?

Naturally, at some point, I started to research a platform that would ease up our working process. It should have been a tool with:

  • Easy client feedback process
  • Dashboard, where we could access all our projects and what stage they′re at
  • Task management
  • A commenting feature that would leave no questions unanswered

And there were plenty of apps available online. However, very few of them were designed specifically for the creative process. And almost all of them focused either on the client review process or task management. None seemed to fill in that gap. And so, the only thing left to do was to create a tool for our internal use that would:

  1. let clients follow our work process, review it and leave feedback without any kind of hustle;?
  2. let us have all the feedback both from client and team in the same place and organized in a time code manner;
  3. make it possible to manage each project pipeline
  4. assign tasks to our team members and keep track of their statuses
  5. leave comprehensive feedback, so our team can make timely changes

I remember, back in 2019 when Pavel (now the CTO of Krock) was working on a mobile game for Hound Studio, I looked over to what he was doing and thought that it would be so much easier if we could just tap a spot on an image and leave a comment about it! It would solve the problem of emailing back-and-forth and summarizing the edits we have to implement. I shared my longings with him, and he said he′d try to do it. And that′s how the first version of Krock started.

Managing client feedback is a particularly painful process for any team. It was an endless thread of emails and messages, where you either had to summarize the changes you′d get to implement daily or risked getting lost in all the input your client provided and miss some detail, which results in poor delivery and missed deadlines. And so, we shared our internal app with fellow creators.?

After receiving positive feedback all around, we decided to launch Krock to the public.?

Today, Krock.io smoothes the creation process, covers every aspect of creative workflow, makes administrative tasks and review process effortless both for clients and teams, and provides an enjoyable collaboration experience. And at a much friendlier cost than the aggregated set of tools, you would need to use otherwise. Just take a look at these comparison charts to get an idea of what Krock offers compared to other apps out there.
