Why have we integrated with Segment

One of the most common challenges when trying out a new data tool is collecting historical data and being able to use it for analysis.

We’ve been there. Getting all excited about new possibilities and then bumping into this issue- collecting data sets and bringing them all in one place.

At some point, all the good intentions to try an innovation are defeated by a lack of time to arrange the implementation or the fact that the current tool you’re using has locked you in by not allowing you to take your data out.

This obstacle happens often when using the free plan of Google Analytics.

It’s probably anyone’s first choice when it comes to recording data, simply because it’s free.

However, it’s worth keeping in mind the universal rule that if the product is free, it means that you are the product.

Google Analytics doesn’t allow for very sophisticated data analysis. It requires quite some manual work and trial-and-error to get real insights out of it, if possible at all.

But most importantly, the platform doesn’t allow you to extract your historical data in case you want to take a look at it using another product unless you purchase the 360 version which comes with a hefty price tag starting at $150k per year.

This is the main reason why companies like Segment.com exist because setting up tracking data for each new product can prove to be a hurdle and they've solved this problem. Stormly has Segment compatible endpoints to help our clients get started without making any changes in their app or website.

Integrating with Segment has been a priority for us from the very start. As soon as we notice that a Stormly's client has challenges with connecting their data, we recommend them to sign-up with Segment first, even before starting a trial with Stormly.
