Why has ChatGPT AI been adopted so rapidly?

IMHO - and these are my words not ChatGPT AI, BARD or BING...
ChatGPT was first to market.? No brainer there... they got "dibs" on people? interested in trying their product. Great!!! Within 2 months they were over 100 Million Users. But what else? It wasn't just being first to market. For this article/post I will use both ChatGPT and ChatGPT AI to refer to the same tool.??
It's all about the User Experience. Anything we try to sell or get people to try should be user-centered. And ChatGPT in my opinion is user-centered. Here are six reasons why it has been adopted so quickly.
*** User Experience ? #userexperience? ? ? ? ***
- ChatGPT is easy to use out of the gate. Aside from creating a one-time account with a username and password there are no significant hurdles. In fact if you want you can just use your pre-existing google account. +1 for ease of access.
- The user interface is extremely easy to use and intuitive. You type in a request or question, and you get a response. This might not have been so intuitive 10+ years ago, but with the advent of chat bots, people active on the internet have learned, in fact we have been taught by companies, how to use chatbots.? +1 for being intuitive.
- Speed - it delivers results quickly. The data set being analyzed is ridiculously large and the results are delivered within seconds... and the results are provided within seconds scrolling down the screen in real time. This nifty 'action' on-screen makes users feel like something is happening to provide good results.? In fact we have little spinning icons on almost every web app these days which supposedly means something is happening in the background that is worth waiting for... and ChatGPT leverages this ceremony to put us at ease and assume a good result is forthcoming. It's not so scary this way. +1 for keeping something new, somewhat familiar and seemily fast.?
- Quality of results - Simply put the engine behind ChatGPT with its LLM is amazingly good at guessing what you want. Everything is done based on assigning a probability and the vast majority of requests I've made to ChatGPT demonstrate how 'intelligent' it is.? ChatGPT can interpret (or at least tries to interpet) my requests and is often quite good at delivering a response that is useful. I've learned the better my request... the better the response.? One thing we will all want to do in the future is learn how to prompt these AI engines properly - that is if we want the best results. Now with regard to recency of data... with the exception of the fact that ChatGPT data is limited to results before September of 2021 and earlier... the data results are wonderful.? This is a good time to - NOTE, one thing ChatGPT does not do is include recent information or related internet searches. So if you want to know the odds for who is going to win the 2023 NBA Finals #nbafinals , you'll have to use a different engine or web browser. +1 for quality. ? -0.5 points for not including internet search results.? (but wait you say, the Plus version for $20 a month does include internet results.? Right you are! You can have your -0.5 points back if you ante up.)
- Guardrails provided - Basic instructions are provided and error messages.+1 for keeping it relatively simple and easy to learn how to use.
- It is exciting - the results you receive from using ChatGPT are amazing and when you consider the time saved researching various questions whether for a family vacation, a work problem, a homework problem... the savings are tremendous.? What's not to love?? +1 for delivering huge value!? Time is one of our biggest assets these days and it saves us time.?
For fun I ran this post through ChatGPT and it came back with a very well written and succinct article.? I was fairly impressed and although it would have required a few tweaks to make sure the intent was achieved for each of the 6 points above, it was a good response. It just isn’t as “fun” to read as my article. I hope you enjoyed reading my article.? -Sean?
