Why IT has Become the Sweet Spot for Generative AI

While?OpenAI,?Microsoft,?IBM,?Amazon, and?Google?are trying hard to crack the enterprise code in the generative AI landscape,?NVIDIA?seems to have this quiet confidence about its unique approach, embarking on the IT path.

“IT is the nervous system of every modern enterprise in every industry,” said NVIDIA chief?Jensen Huang, during the latest announcement of its partnership with business automation and software firm ServiceNow, where the duo now looks to build?super-specialised generative AI?for enterprises, boosting the capability and productivity of IT employees, globally. “We are going to create hundreds of models, solving thousands of business problems,” he added.?

Interestingly, NVIDIA is also testing them internally. The company is looking to leverage ServiceNow expertise to streamline its IT operations with generative AI tools, alongside using its data to customise?NVIDIA NeMo?foundational models running on?hybrid-cloud infrastructure?and on-premises?supercomputers.?

Why this partnership makes sense:?While there is an active interest among enterprises in adopting generative AI to automate certain functions, there is also a slew of scepticism pouring in from certain quarters. This is quite evident when using publicly trained language models such as ChatGPT, GPT-4, Codex, and others, due to fears of compromised sensitive information, alongside security risks, accuracy issues, and legal and regulatory obstacles.?

So far:?Apple,?Samsung, Amazon, Goldman Sachs,?Bank of America, Wells Fargo and others have restricted their employees from using the publicly trained chatbot over the fear of leaking confidential information.

Legal trouble mounts:?Two days ago, Twitter?accused Microsoft?of using its data without due permission. It has also charged the tech company for sharing Twitter’s data with the US government. This could invite a ‘lawsuit’ from Twitter, as?hinted?by Elon Musk recently.?

Also, a class action lawsuit was filed against Microsoft, OpenAI, and GitHub for scrapping the licensed code to build AI-powered Copilot in November last year. This has been one of the biggest roadblocks for the company, and it is now desperately looking to escape – asking the court to dismiss a?proposed class complaint.?

Exceptions: Despite the fears, several tech enablers are embracing Microsoft Azure’s OpenAI services and solutions. Recently, German multinational software firm?SAP?announced?a collaboration with Microsoft to?streamline recruiting and employee development processes.?Besides SAP, other companies include?Salesforce?and?Zoho. At the same time, some of these companies are?developing?their?own language models.?

Chirantan “CJ” Desai, the president and COO of ServiceNow, believes that as the adoption of generative AI continues to accelerate, organisations will turn to trusted vendors with battle-tested, secure AI capabilities to boost productivity, gain a competitive edge, and keep data and IP secure.

IT: Generative AI Sweet Spot?

A majority of IT companies, including the likes of Infosys,?TCS, Accenture, Tech Mahindra,?Capgemini, and others have been working on developing relevant use cases and PoCs to automate business processes across functions.?

But one company claims to have gone beyond the PoC stage:?Read?Cognizant Launches AI Platform for Generative AI Deployment.

With this, the company claimed to be among the first to launch an AI platform to help its customers understand, integrate and customise AI models to drive business outcomes.?Prasad Sankaran, executive VP at Cognizant, said that its new AI platform goes beyond PoCs, and aims to accelerate the adoption of enterprise-scale AI applications, increase RoI, minimise risks, alongside develop business solutions faster.?

Bets big on India:?Amazon recently announced that it will be?investing $12.7 billion in local cloud infrastructure in India by 2030. This is in addition to the $3.7 billion it had previously invested in the country between 2016 and 2022.?

“These investments signify AWS’ long-term commitment to India and will help us meet the growing customer demand for cloud services. It’s not just investments, we continue to innovate and double down on what our customers are asking for, be it generative AI, data solutions, skilling, sustainability and a whole lot more,”?said?Amazon’s?Puneet Chandok.?

IT has become the sweet spot for companies engaged in generative AI projects, due to its lucrative potential and widespread appeal. As per Precedence Research, the global generative AI market is expected to touch?$118.06 billion by 2032, growing at a CAGR of 27.02%. The growth is said to be fueled by an increasing demand for AI-powered applications across industries.
