Why Greenger?

Why Greenger?

I was five years old.

It was a Saturday night, and I was flipping through the channels on the television in our family room.? My parents were on the other side of the house in our living room watching whatever parents watch when their five-year-old isn’t around.

This night ultimately cost my parents many college tuitions over their lifetime.? Many more than they could have ever imagined with one child.

As I rapidly flipped through the channels, something caught my eye.? I was flipping so quickly I had to pause and flip back to the channel.? The commentator's voice jumped with excitement as I watched motorcycles race around on dirt.? Camera flashes flickering from what seemed like a million people surrounding the riders.? They were racing around a course, jumping, swerving, crashing, and bumping into each other.

I set the remote down.

The following weekend found me on that same couch flipping through the channels. And there it was. That same voice racing with excitement.? The crowd roared with even more excitement.? I jumped up and plopped down on the floor just a foot from the TV.? My eyes were as wide as they could be.

This is how my Saturday nights looked for the next several weeks.? I pieced together what channel and what time, what turned out to be Supercross, came on.? And I was on that couch, waiting for it to start.

Fast forward to Christmas that year.? My parents requested my wishlist for Santa.? “A DIRTBIKE!”? You may be familiar with the look I received if you ever asked for a dirtbike for Christmas.? Confusion.? Shock.? “How does he even know what a dirtbike is?”? I let them in on what their radical little child had been up to for many Saturday nights earlier that year.? G.I. Joes weren’t on the list this year.

There it was.? Christmas morning had finally rolled around.? And sitting next to that tree was a white and pink PW50.? The smile on my face was so big it hurt my cheeks.

The rest is history.

Well, not quite. I rode this little bike for a few years.? Racing up and down our dirt road in Lancaster, California to rip through the trails of the Mojave desert that began in the cul-de-sac at the end of our road.? I have a funny story about this same cul-de-sac.? But I’ll save that for a later time.

Years later, we were living in Washington.? I transitioned from desert riding to woods riding.? I still loved every part of it.? And I still found supercross on TV every Saturday night during the season.? I had also learned about motocross.? Needless to say, I had become somewhat of a superfan.

Fast forward many years later.

That first Saturday night, over thirty years ago, created a lifetime of amazing memories in the powersports industry.? From the desert to the woods.? From the woods to the track.? To a somewhat successful amateur career with factory support.? To a struggling privateer career as a professional.? I had some amazing experiences and met thousands and thousands of great people all across the country.

In 2007, I quit racing.? The privateer life was tough.? The money wasn’t there, and I felt burnt out.? But I loved supercross.? I loved motocross.? I loved powersports. ?I couldn’t just walk away from it.? Or could I?

Of course not.? Since then, I’ve worked in multiple roles in the powersports industry.? From entry level positions at the retail level, to leading sales and marketing teams at a corporate level, to where I am now: Greenger Powersports .? An electric motorcycle manufacturer.

“Why Greenger?? Why an electric motorcycle company?”

“Do you really think it’s going that way?”

“Don’t you only get like thirty minutes out of those before you have to charge them?”

“Why would people want those?”

The questions are always flowing in.? If you know me, you know I love to talk to people.? So I enjoy these conversations.

This is a sport and industry I’ve been a part of for close to my entire life.? Motorcycling and powersports are in my blood.? I absolutely love the people throughout, and experiences I’ve developed along the way.? And I am so thankful for it all.

Months ago, when I first visited Greenger’s offices, I had a chance to ride a Greenger for the first time.? I stepped off the bike and stood there for a moment.? My cheeks hurt.? And I remembered that little kid whose face lit up that Christmas morning all those years ago.

This is why Greenger.
