One of the most important lessons I’ve learned in my career is this: you can’t do a great deal without great people.
I didn’t learn this in a textbook or at a seminar—it came from experience. From moments where things went incredibly well because of the people I had around me. And, if I’m being honest, from a few hard-earned lessons where I realized the impact of not having the right team in place.
But here’s the good news: every deal, every challenge, and every win has taught me something powerful about the role of great people in making great things happen.
Great People Build Trust
When it comes to raising capital, trust is everything. And that trust isn’t just about your deal—it’s about you and your team.
Early on, I thought investors were primarily focused on numbers. While the numbers matter, I’ve learned that the real question they’re asking is:
Do I trust you to deliver on this?
Do you have the right people around you to make it happen?
The best deals I’ve ever done weren’t just built on great opportunities—they were built on relationships, transparency, and collaboration with the right people.
Great People Drive Execution
A great idea only gets you so far. It’s the execution that makes it real. And execution happens when you have people who:
Step up when challenges arise.
Push for solutions when others might pause.
Hold themselves—and you—accountable to the vision.
Looking back, the moments when deals truly took off were never just about me—they were about a team of people all rowing in the same direction.
Great People Expand Opportunities
The most exciting opportunities in my career didn’t come from chasing deals—they came from the relationships I’d built.
When you surround yourself with great people, they don’t just help you succeed—they multiply your success. They bring fresh ideas, new networks, and aligned energy that opens doors you didn’t even know existed.
One of my guiding principles is to “Be a valuable magnet.” When you focus on adding value to others, you naturally attract people who align with your goals and values.
