Why Graduates End Up Doing Something Else After 4 Years??

I think too many people aren’t asking this question enough, because if they do, it will change their life for the better
Here’s the question ????
Before I tell you my take on this subject, I want you to take a careful look at the contents below ????
The lie that most of us were told those days, and unfortunately that lie is still being passed down to this present generation
Is that IF YOU GRADUATE WITH A FIRST CLASS HONORS… complete the sentence
I know it ends with a promise of bliss, instant jobs, opportunities, just name it. But in reality? ????
The last time I checked, the Nigerian education system produces 600,000 fresh graduates yearly
What that means for the current 100 level student in the university is that by the time you graduate
you’ll be joining a staggering population of over 2million+ job seekers
How many institutions do we have in the country to absorb that number YEARLY?
it’s impossible to absorb everyone
what that means is that THERE WILL BE MANY UNEMPLOYED/UNDEREMPLOYED GRADUATES
The Government knows this so well, that is why during your compulsory Youth Service year
you’re mandated to sign up for Skill Acquisition & Entrepreneurship Department (SAED)

For those who have been through NYSC you know how boring SAED can be
The worst part of the scheme is not that it’s teaching graduates skills, it’s the kind of skills they teach
Tailoring, bag making, tie & dye, food processing, cosmetology, solar power installation, computer hardware repairs, web design,..

What’s a graduate’s business with learning tie & dye, bead making, tailoring?
And it’s not as if it’s the sophisticated one oh, it’s the SAME one undergraduates and illiterates are doing well
What happened to AI, Machine learning, masters program abroad, tech related stuff & digital marketing, that we ACTUALLY need ?!
It was during my service year I started looking for options until I found digital marketing in 2019.
The same digital marketing is what led me to learning affiliate marketing today
You know what made me take affiliate marketing seriously last year?
Let me tell you..
I was actually hoping to get a job in Abuja that pays N120k/month
My first job as a graduate paid me N40k/month, so N120k was like a dream come true..
that’s actually 6 figures monthly!
But then I met an UNDERGRAD earning at least $2,000 monthly as a copywriter and I was like, shey you dey whine me ni???
So I thought to myself, “why am I hustling for a 120k/month job if I can learn a skill that can pay me that much online?”
This was the boost I needed to start taking online businesses seriously
(hitherto I didn’t think it was possible to earn that much online LEGITIMATELY)
Abeg oh…
I’m not saying you should ditch school oh,
I’m only saying don’t wait to find out too late.. START NOW
And please this is not about affiliate marketing, everyone can’t be successful affiliate marketers, everyone can’t be in tech.
If na moi moi or shoe making you wan do after graduation..
or if na tech, forex, or affiliate marketing, biko start early so that before you grad your hand go don strong for the game.
You gerrit??
I hope you find this helpful,
Best regards,
Inneh Joseph.

1 年This idea of "go to school, get a good grade, and then get a job" is a mentality that has crystalized so much on an average Nigerian that even when you tell him about an opportunity of making money without looking for a job, he quickly feel you are a scammer and jump back to his credentials.

2 年The thing about going to school is not summed up in getting a good job in that field, a lie we were sold. Education is first about grooming of one's reasoning, intellect, and perception. So that, outside the confines of one's field of study one can still think and function effectively. I got immense value, sir. Thanks for sharing.
