Why @Google is a great company?

Obviosuly, #1 answer is that #Google is the best search engine for the majority of the countries and languages (yes, I do respect #Yandex work for the Russian language with a complex morphology and cannot judge the quality of #Baidu :) .

I can name a dozen of other awesome products from Google both for consumers (e.g. Google Docs) and for researchers (of course, how can I make a post without mentioning #TensorFlow :) But this post is not about #deeplearning. Sorry!

There is an effective yet super simple feature from Google --- Google Doodles! As you probably know, every day they share some story on the "main page of the Internet" (Google.com).

Today, the doodle story is about Zaha Hadid --- a remarkable architect, whose work I deeply admire (BTW, my mom is an architect, and it is probably the main reason why I like architecture and paid attention to this particular doodle). As a result, all major online news outlets produced articles about Zaha Hadid today. What a coincidence!

I am sure it is due to Google Doodles. For curious minds, I did some comparative analysis with Google Trends (https://trends.google.com/trends/explore…) and it seems that Google Doodles do influence news and blogosphere --- I compared mentions for "comparable" historical figures and only the ones who were featured in doodles got a boost in citations.

That's a great demonstration how Google leverages its platform advantage/power and network effects not only to make money from contextual search ads but also to distribute the right ideas. Certainly, today the world has learned a little bit more about the work worth learning: https://www.google.com/…/proje…/zaha-hadid-at-the-serpentine. I believe that all platforms (e.g. Facebook, Twitter, Youtube, Reddit, Medium,...) should do the same.

And, dear friends, just like Google and despite having a smaller scale, each of us can help distribute great ideas, the ones, which are truly valuable, remarkable, and inspiring! So, next time you (re)post something (here or there), think like Google and act like Google! :)
