Why goal setting lets us down

Well, it's February 10th which means you've probably already fallen behind on your New Year's Resolution.
No judgment! It's super common, and I'd be lying if I told you I never fell short of my own resolutions.
But I want to talk a little bit about why that happens...
Goal setting is a massively important step. If you don't know what you're trying to accomplish, you'll completely leave everything to chance.
Having goals as a North Star helps you to make decisions. When opportunities come your way, or there are decisions to be made, you just have to ask, "Will this help me accomplish [goal]?"
And setting goals makes us feel good! We don't set goals that we feel are impossible for us to achieve...so the act of imagining ourselves after reaching that goal is such a rush.
So why do we let our resolutions die?
If goals are the destination, plans are the road to getting there.
Making plans is way less fun that setting destinations. Plans are scary, because they involved commitments. And plans are confronting, because they force you to face the reality of what it will actually take to get to your destination.
Most of us never make it to the planning state. And without a road, our odds to making it to our destination are pretty small.
Creating plans is my specialty. In fact, creating a plan for my clients was at the core of my accelerator, Unreal Collective.
Over the past four years, I've built a process for creating a rock solid, comforting plan to reach the goals that we set for ourselves.
And now instead of joining my accelerator for hundreds of dollars, I'm teaching you how to do it in in a short workshop.
Join me on Friday morning, and I'll teach you my 3-step framework for not only setting your goals, but smashing through them.
We'll work together live on a Zoom call, and you'll leave with a 12-month plan broken down into actionable steps for you to actually achieve those goals you have for yourself this year.
I just hosted this workshop in SPI Pro last month, and it got rave reviews.
?? Register for the Goal Smashing Workshop ??
I'll send you a template you can use every year from here on out, and if you can't make it live on Friday morning, you'll get the recording too.
And if you don't join us, I hope you'll still sit down and create a plan for yourself!
Look ma, I'm on the SPI Podcast!
A couple weeks ago, I was fortunate enough to sit down with Pat Flynn on the Smart Passive Income (SPI) podcast.
The SPI podcast is one of the biggest business podcasts on the planet, with more than 60 million downloads. ??
Pat and I talked about the easiest ways to start freelancing and start earning an income as an independent creative. I even offered listeners a short-term discount on my best-selling Freelancing School course bundle.

On Creative Elements ??
This week on Creative Elements, I'm definitely only the second-best podcast host featured in the episode.
I'm talking with Jordan Harbinger, a Wall Street lawyer turned podcast interviewer with knack for securing high-profile guests.
His show, The Jordan Harbinger Show was selected as part of Apple’s “Best of 2018.” And today, the Jordan Harbinger Show generates more than 6 million downloads per month.
In this episode, we talk about building strong relationships, effective sales strategies that people actually appreciate, being a great podcast host, and ALL of it really comes down to relationships.
That's all for this week, my friend! I hope the year is off to a great start for you. And, sincerely, I'd love to help you get a PLAN in place for your goals this year.
This exercise is the most impactful exercise for my business every year, and I actually do it once per quarter. The process can be scaled up or scaled down for monthly, quarterly, or annual goals...and I know it'll serve you.
Without this type of planning, there's no way I'd be able to stay on top of and make significant progress on all the different aspects of my business.
So, once again, highly recommend you register to join us on Friday! And, if you can't make it live, you'll get the template and recording.
Hope to see you there!
Cheers,
Jay
