Fashion Awards. Golden Globes. What next, the #Oscars?

TikTok has changed everything, from what we cook to how we shop, now it’s also making its mark on the red carpet. At the #goldenglobes Amelia Dimoldenberg, AKA?Chicken Shop Date’s?host, and Reece Feldman (@GuyWithAMovieCamera) interviewed the guests and in tandem made the event go viral.


This isn’t the first time that influencers have infiltrated entertainment events – Emma Chamberlain is a mainstay of the #metgala – but this was the perfect symbiosis of #influencermarketing. It was finessed in such a way that everyone’s FYP became a dedicated feed to the Golden Globes.

There are 4 reasons why this was a genius influencer alignment:

+ Targeting the audience where they’re already scrolling.?

We view the world through our small screens (6.8B of us have smartphones). Amelia’s most popular content (Chicken Shop Dates) is social-first and this influenced the style of interviews she produced for the Golden Globes. By creating content from an event that feels unattainable, like the Golden Globes, in a socially native format, it captured users where they were already active with a medium they historically engaged with.

+ Making it bitesize.

Who has the time to watch a full red carpet stream? Not TikTok. As TikTok turns away from social media's historic USP for conversation and instead prioritises entertainment and discovery, this aligned perfectly with the platform. Capture the 30M daily viewers of this social platform with the content they crave.

+ Turning the unrelatable relatable.

Amelia is the perfect host because her MO is awkward, which is how us, TikTok viewers, would feel if we had to interview A-Listers. Awkward and authentic is also the MO of TikTok, which made her content perfect for the platform.

+ Leaning on the viral experts.

TikTok’s algorithm can make a sound or two-second funny moment go viral. By working with an influencer, like Amelia, who is an old hand at creating these moments, (see: her interaction with Andrew Garfield) the chances of this happening are increased.
