WHY GIRARD PERREGAUX…

I get the question a lot why spend on a GP芝柏表簡介 when i can get a ROLEX for the same price or cheaper? Lets dive into this right now.

When we think of luxury watches, most people synonymous think ROLEX and others like Audemars Piguet , the question begs why?

NEO CONSTANT ESCAPEMENT

The first thing we have to look when we compare brands is when was the company build, and how long are they in business? GP is the third oldest watch brand in the world started as early 1791, with over one hundred and twenty years before Rolex, while Patek Philippe only established fifty years later.

Laurento

When we look at exclusivity we see Rolex as the most produced watches and there’s no shortage in Rolexes as they make 1.2 million watches a year, while AP makes 70,000 watches a year, compared to GP makes 15,000 which is a tiny amount in the watch industry giving you a true exclusivity.

LA ESMERALDA TOURBILLON "A SECRET" ETERNITY EDITION

If we look at complications from a simple point of view most watch companies don’t have true tourbillon, escarpment movements, and crazy complications, most Rolex complications are mostly with a date or without a date, even the most complicated Sky Dweller or Day date models are very moderate complications which even Hublot could make ??, GP on the other hand has been a pioneer in complications from the Bridges models, to their tourbillon models.

Casquette

On another note most watch companies don’t make their own watch cases, while not only does GP make their own cases but they also produced one of the first transparent full sapphire case which you see it rarely as I’ve written about it for Jaquet Droz , and we’re not speaking ab out cheap watches, GP watches go for as high as a whopping half a million dollars.

Laureato Aston Martin Edition 38mm

Okay okay I get it, its very fancy but I want a simple every day watch, GP has thought about that with their Laurento model, which is a integrated bracelet sports model, you can get in a time only, going up to a chronograph and obviously more complicated as well, it fits well on every hand size as they have a lot of size variations, colors and materials, from steel, gold, sapphire, titanium and even green ceramic, these are just a tiny glimpse in how advanced this company is.

Laureato Absolute Chronograph 8Tech

On a more classical side GP has the vintage 1945 which is a absolute killer watch, I have one myself as I’ve written in the past about it, the new 1945 has a moonphase and beautifully designed dials, which makes it a real dress watch, I love as well to put on a rubber strap and enjoy it in a hot summer day as a sporting watch, while the Laurento is a divers watch and has serious diving water proofing this one doesn’t you have to be more careful.

VINTAGE 1945 XXL LARGE DATE AND MOON PHASES

Therefore what begs the question why doesn’t everyone jump on the wagon, if the watch is that great with all these amazing features and heritage, in house all parts, and high end finishes? The answer is “Marketing”, Rolex and other big brands, have invested millions and millions of dollars in marketing and ads to make their watch the hottest on the market and a real scarcity and real FOMO.

If you go right now on Chrono24 you will find probably 100,000 Rolex watches for sale, this means there is no shortage, but they make it appear as if there is one, also most people want a simple watch not complicated while real enthusiasts love complications, and while all this is going on GP has decided to stay underground and not explode, but it did as soon as the Laurento appeared.

CAT’S EYE CELESTIAL

When the Laurento came out, it really shook up the watch world as it brought new life to the watch industry and woke up the enthusiastic watch collectors to get one as well, as you cam see they have at least twenty models of the Laurento and they are truly beautiful, for me I love the copper dial, sadly they don’t have it in 42mm.

To close off on a practical level, if you wanna buy a GP at a budget of 5k I would suggest you “the Casquette” if you can get your hands on one as they are very limited, if you are going for more daily use and budget is 10k plus, you should definitely look at “the Laurento” there’s one for every single person on the planet from rubber strap to bracelets, if you wanna spend 20k and classic look no further than the “vintage 1945” which is a rectangle beautiful piece of art, if your budget is unlimited look at “the Bridges” they start at 100k up to 600k and you get real bang for your buck.

Last but not least, this is in no way a paid ad nor do I have any benefit by you buying watches I write about, I write as enjoyment and all this is my opinion, if you buy a watch based on my writings you have made the right decision please DM me.

Until next week

Great article. If you had a GP that there is very little information on, and that even the archive team at GP struggle with. What would be your best advice?
