Why not to get into Entrepreneurship?

I have always encouraged people to start and succeed in their field of interest. Entrepreneurship is the next coolest thing that’s I discovered in my life and surprisingly its trending everywhere which is quite a thing. Now, if I would be asked a question; “should everyone who found their passion start entrepreneurship?†I would go for a big yes; well that was 2–3 years ago. Now, at this stage I suggest people to first know themselves and then their passion. Here, as I write, I am going to explain you what exactly do I mean in the sentence above and not to aspire to be an entrepreneur for the following reason.
The first and the most important thing you need to make note of is this fact that entrepreneurship is not a bed of roses. No matter in which stage of it are you in, you have to make sure you can tackle the thorns that come along the roses. Its filled with anxiety, hopeless, depression, worthless , self doubt . It’s a characteristic of an entrepreneur to endure the pain for a long point of time. One problem solved will always be replaced by another problem but never the less its still a life to be lived for a certain kind of a people. Below I have discussed few points on why you should not choose a life of an entrepreneur, I hope you will find a value out of it.
- You feel you are great at your craft and you want to get rid of you boss
Knowing how to do a work in a business has nothing to do with creating a business that works. Because you understand how to do a technical work of a business but understanding how to run a business that does technical work is 180 degree from the truth. And it’s a fatal assumption behind to failure of a lot of business. Because the owner/founder of that business doesn’t start a business as an entrepreneur would, the founder of that business start the business for absolutely the wrong reason. They start a business to get rid of the boss. Because they are working for some one else, they are doing and doing it for day in and day out, a master technician and they say to themselves , “why am I doing this for this guy?. I could be doing this for me. Any dummy can run a business and I am working for one.†And a technician starts a business to get rid of the boss and instantly do what never should have been done, creating a job. Now this business isn’t a business but a job, the worst job for the founder working 12–15 hours a day, 7 days a week unless he breaks and give up everything and doesn’t want to do it anymore. Most business imprisons the person who creates it. It doesn’t have to be that way. Excerpt from E myth.
So don’t start a business for a wrong reason, creating something you love and creating a job around it is two different thing. if you love creating something, making something and you feel you should start a business or startup , then ask yourself just a single question, do you love selling it too? Yes! A very important question that everyone who thinks of a start up is their field of interest. Like the love of creating it, if thoughts of selling it excites them equally or not, as business is all about selling yours or someone else’s creation.
2. You just want to grow by yourself and that too on only one field.
Are you the kind of person who wants to start something but grow by themselves only? Here! I explain this point giving my example. When I started from being a blogger turned photographer to wedding business and now brand management agency, through all these stages I made sure I lend a hand to someone from my team or be it hiring new team member and making them an important part of that stage. This helped me get a hand that would hold my brand while I got chance to move to new without worrying about the thing I have to leave. Now if you are someone who doesn’t want other people to know what you know, your ideas and how you want to carry it, you will never be able to build a team. A lot of technician who start a business will never understand how important it is to do the transition of your knowledge and expertise to the new generation. Wanting to experience all the great opportunities on that field by only oneself will only make the people insecure around you. You will always find comfort doing one thing day in and day out and ends up building everything on only his or her own personal skills.
3. You compare everything with money and it’s the biggest motivation.
One has to understand a very important thing before starting something that, like I said before, money is not everything but it is something, I use this to explain you the point that money should not be the only motivation of a person for starting something. Being a businessman and an entrepreneur are two different things. An entrepreneur is someone who would start something for 2 reasons, the 1st is to solve something and 2nd is when they want to change the system to do something. What’s the most important thing that has to be noticed here is the fact that while you try to change a system or bring a new idea you might need to leave a lot of money on the table. What I mean by that is adding values to someone else’s life, doing things for free to other people, building PR and an authority in the market is equally important. These things will not bring you money right then and there and in fact might cost you in return both in terms of time and money. So if you compare everything with money, you might be suffering from a technician mindset and which might not help you to evolve into an entrepreneur mindset. You might have felt demotivated of doing things that doesn’t bring quick result and ultimately making you quit
4. What other feel about you makes a big difference:
This time I am talking about the mental stress you will face with passing time. As I mentioned earlier Its filled with anxiety, hopelessness, depression, worthlessness, self doubt. At times, the people whom you thought would help you throughout can be the one who wants to stop you. If you are a kind of person who minds what people think or say about you, you then cannot sustain long and everything is ultimately going to end. Coz people will say a lot of things. I remember a quote from a recent movie I watched†SANJUâ€; “People will say because its what they do all the timeâ€. We are a social animal and it definitely matters what the society says about us but if its really a big thing in your life and you seek conformation from your family, friends, society on a lot of different levels may be this journey might not be a journey for you.
5. Changing and evolving your mind is difficult
For some people, they are so obsessed to the ideas they first started with that they just don’t want to switch ideas or evolve into it which is such a blunder. All that you do is to cater the market need and if you can’t decide to change the way market demands, better don’t enter into something like entrepreneurship or else you will be very easily sidelined by the market. You should learn to evolve with the market and if you can’t the best thing you can do is keep away from starting something on your own just because it’s a next cool thing. My personal story would be I started from writing about photography then teaching it, then starting a wedding photography company and eventually running a brand management agency. I would not have been here if I was very stubborn with my initial ideas. And I still see myself evolving as per the market requirement into something bigger and better.
6. You are focused on with what in front
Farsightedness is another very very important nature you need to carry to carry entrepreneurship with all the power. If you are someone who sees only what’s going on in the present and doesn’t take care of what might be happening in couple of years to come and what should you do to cope up with the change that might happen. I have talked about it in detailed on my article, Lesson learned in life.
7. You are a sheep
All in all, if you feel you are a sheep — now what is that might click your mind then I would recommend the previous article of mine i.e. sheep vs. Shepherdto take reference of- you ought not enter entrepreneurship.
I am not going to tell anyone of you to not start what you are interested in but keep in mind , just to get next cool thing on you, you will not only be wasting time and energy but will also have yourself trapped so bad. I hope this article makes you realize if you should be getting into something that doesn’t match the nature you carry and rather focus on something that does match and succeed in that and reach to heights through that. All the very best!
