1. Identifying Key EPR Obligations for EWaste – In Nutshell

CPCBhad mandated the applicability of EPR Obligations for EWastein their revised E Waste Management Rule, 2023 to ensure-

Every Manufacturer, Refurbisher,Importer, and Recycler of dead electronic products must fulfil EPR for E-waste Obligations

Every Producer, Refurbisher, and Importer handling e-waste must take EPR registration through CPCB’s portal only

Any entity found operating and managing E-waste without prior EPR registration is liable to face hefty penalties and other legal consequences

Every Producer, Refurbisher, and Importer must adhere to EPR Obligations for E Waste dealing with any of the 106 EEE items mentioned in the revised EWM Rule, 2023

The obligations also include mandatory fulfilment of the E-waste recycling target- which is 60% for 2023-24, and 2024-25, 70% for 2025-26 and 2026-27, and 80% for 2027-28 onwards

The E-Waste Obligations have included handler of dead solar PV modules/ panels/ cells/ refrigerator and air-cooling machines too in the revised Amendment to E Waste Management Rule, 2023

2. Additional Duties Under Fulfillment of EPR Obligations for E Waste

Apart from the key obligatory duties categorised under fulfillment of EPR Obligations for E Wastein India, these are a few additional responsibilities that must be covered as well-?

Producers need to purchase EPR Certificates for FY2023-2024 by 31st March, 2024

Every Producer, Importer, Refurbisher and Recycler must submit Annual Quarterly Return by 31st April, 2024 for FY 2023-24

Moreover, every kind of E-waste produced from the listed 106 EEEs must be freed from ecologically hazardous substances, before processing them for further treatment

Recycled quantity must be computed and added in the Annual Quarterly Report submission, to avoid false claims while preparing the report?
