Why fit in when you were born to STAND OUT!” in what context is it said and who says to whom really speaking?- says the butcher looking for the longest neck or -- says the author encouraging new writers or -- says the misfit getting the tenth body piercing. or -- says the teacher counselling a bullied student or -- says the entrepreneur about risks worth taking.
Too much time and energy in life gets spent trying to fit in… trying to be seen as “normal”.This is a Seussian sentiment, but he never uttered it using these words. We are all a little weird and life's a little weird, and when we find someone whose weirdness is compatible with ours, we join up with them and fall in mutual weirdness and call it love.
I normally interpret this statement as another way of saying "be yourself". We are all very unique in terms of our personality, interests, etc, and this phrase encourages people to avoid changing aspects of who they are in order to fit in with or be liked by others. In order to be accepted by society, most people try to fit in. They forget who they are in the process and what they came to do on earth. Society, family, institutions, communities etc… tend to be normative and restrict us to be totally ourselves.
For me personally speaking, most of the time I do stand out. I have a very strong self-esteem and self-confidence, so I really don’t care what people say or think of me. So I don’t have any problems standing out. I have lived my life as I wanted and was quite a non-conformist in the sense that I did what best suited my philosophy of life and I have never done any harm to anyone intentionally nor have I wished bad for anyone about anything. But I guess being different and being unique is a good quality and one should stand out among the crowd.
I was one of the few school back benchers who would ask always questions in every lecture and surprise the teachers with my wit and sometime invited their wrath for asking some odd question to which they had no answer and they would shout at me to sit down dumb fellow because I used to occupy back benches in the school may be due to my low marks in the academics.
Study finds the most successful employees do a bit of both, striking a balance between integration and nonconformity. However, if you stand out structurally you aren't a member of any one clique at work but serve as a bridge across groups that are otherwise disconnected from each other then you better fit in culturally.
There are people who are specialists and do not like to be termed as 'generic' because they are unique in their behaviours and qualities. It is a famous quote,“Be who you are and say what you feel, because those who mind don't matter, and those who matter don't mind.” or even “You'll learn, as you get older, that rules are made to be broken." and my favourite was of course “I don't fit into any stereotypes not into the ready made clothes even as they would normally be either too tight or too loose due to my not average physique I guess.
There is no doubt that those women who have self confidence stand out. A woman who is confident thinks highly of herself and her achievements. The confident woman also doesn't shy away from speaking in public, and always looks into the eyes of those she is talking to. She knows what she wants, and she knows how to get it. Men go "ga ga" over them whereas women go jealous because they don't get as much attention as her, hence prefer to call her 'attention seeker' or publicity minded!
Be yourself and be confident if you are different from the crowd, you will stand out as an outstanding person and above average from the normal people, be proud of yourself but do not carry unwanted ego, because you need to show to the world you are unique, they will know themselves. Stay blessed ! #kishoreshintre

4 年It takes courage and self belief in ourselves to be ourselves. But it takes us even more effort to be someone we are not, in order to be considered "normal" and be part of the crowd. The latter cause us more damage in the long run, as we end up not knowing who we are and what we want in life. Inspired KS (Keep smiling) With Positive Vibes?? Awesome share. TQ TQ

4 年Well, I think every human being is so unique in this world. Because everyone has a different #ideological mind & #values. It's pretty rare that sometimes we don't get the values we want too, because of our expectations and as we all know that expectations don't have limits & that's the reality of Life yeah!

4 年Inspired KS (Keep smiling) With Positive Vibes?? , mithra, yes spot on. you bring values when you use your uniqueness to create values. never shy away from standing your ground to create values for others with your conviction as a unique person. everyone has his own values that he must maximise and lost it to the herd expectation. well said. cheers, ???? i’m an #unlearningenthusiast
