Why Feedback matters?

Why Feedback matters?

Career Excellence Begins with accepting Feedback.

Many leaders I work with share a common initial reaction to feedback: anger. It's a natural defense mechanism, especially when we feel our competence is being questioned. Have you ever received feedback that stung a little? A well-meaning comment that felt like a personal attack on your abilities? We've all been there. But what if I told you that #embracing – not resisting – feedback is the secret weapon of high achievers? But what if I told you a story about a client who transformed her relationship with feedback, turning it from a foe into a powerful tool for growth?

Recently, I coached Sarah (name changed to protect privacy), a talented marketing manager who felt stuck in her career. She was frustrated with a lack of recognition and unsure how to break through to the next level. As we delved deeper, a pattern emerged – Sarah had a blind spot when it came to feedback.

One negative comment could derail her entire week, leaving her feeling discouraged and questioning her skills. We explored the fear of #feedback: the ego sting, the threat to our self-perception. But then, we reframed it. Feedback, I explained, isn't a personal attack, it's a growth opportunity. It's a chance to see ourselves through a different lens, identify areas for improvement, and ultimately, achieve excellence.

The shift in perspective was #transformative. Sarah started actively seeking feedback from colleagues and her manager. She practiced active listening, focusing on the content, not the delivery. And guess what? It paid off.

One colleague pointed out Sarah's presentations could be more data-driven. Instead of feeling defensive, Sarah incorporated the feedback, resulting in more impactful presentations and a reputation for strategic thinking. This, in turn, caught the attention of senior management, leading to an exciting new project and a promotion!

Sarah's story is a powerful example of how embracing feedback can unlock your career potential. Here's your invitation to grow:

  • Next time you receive feedback, take a breath. Ask clarifying questions and thank the person for their input.
  • Reflect on the feedback – is there any truth to it? Even if it's not 100% accurate, is there a nugget you can learn from?
  • Develop an action plan. How can you address the feedback points?
  • Celebrate your progress! Recognize and reward yourself for taking steps to grow.

Remember, excellence is a journey, not a destination. By embracing feedback as a guide, you unlock a world of possibilities in your #career. Are you ready to take the first step? Let's connect and discuss how I can help you navigate feedback to achieve your career goals!

Great reminder of the power of feedback. It can either build or break us but we have the power to choose which block we want. It all goes back to the mindset shift Joyceloy Kyompire (Dare To Glow Coach)
