Why failure is not the ultimate end?
It is the time of board exams. The season of undue pressure. Students become free once the exams are over but for professionals, every day dawns like a day of battle. Every move at work leads either to the victory or defeat. It is an unwritten rule in nature that every soul is designated to live this life as a sine wave. We have days of success and days of failure. How do we handle failure determines our rise or further fall.
I am a storyteller. I perform for children and adults. Many years ago, I was a part of a network of storytellers called “Chennai Storytellers”. At this time, I had the privilege of performing ??at a leading store called “The Odyssey” on a weekly basis. The chief organizers allotted opportunities based on the storyteller’s availability. I was fortunate to do several performances. Two stand out.
In the first , I performed the story “The Selfish Giant by Oscar Wilde” It was horrible. Words didn’t flow out. I forgot lines. At the end I was happy more than the audience that the story was over. I must confess that my preparation was not up to the mark. I was overconfident that a cursory preparation was sufficient. It was a total flop show.
Many months later, the organizers were grateful to give me another go. I corrected my mistakes. I prepared well. I performed the story: “The Pumpkin Seeds” – A Korean folktale. The story flowed from my mouth like water gushing out of a waterfall during a rainy season. It was powerful and pleasing. When I told the last line and paused, the audience gave a thunderous applause. It was my redemption.

Failure is never the end. Success awaits. If you are down because results are not going your way. Do the hard work of accepting your wrongs, correct it and rock it. Never allow one failure to determine who you are. Results do not define you. How you handle success and failure defines you.
