Why expecting the best from people isn’t naive—but pragmatic

Most legal systems are based on the presumption of innocence. Yet, especially in German-speaking countries (hello, cautious minds ??), you often hear:

?? “Be careful, you don’t know them.”

?? “Trust must be earned.”

Sounds reasonable, right? Especially to smart, rational thinkers who pride themselves on being careful. But here’s the catch: this mindset could actually be making your life harder—and science backs me up??The Pygmalion Effect shows that people tend to rise to the expectations placed upon them. When you expect the worst, you often get it. But when you expect the best, you invite positivity, trust, and collaboration into your life??

So, ask yourself:

? Do you want to go out there expecting the worst from everyone, staying “safe” but missing the beauty in human connection?

? Or do you want to believe most people are good, opening doors to happier relationships and more success?

Your expectations shape your reality. Choose wisely.

Appreciate this perspective! Setting high expectations can truly drive performance and growth. What do you think are key factors in fostering a mindset that encourages this?

Mega!

Exactly! The majority of contacts will enrich your life. Of course, there are contacts that turn out to be negative afterwards and you remove them from your network. But should you give up all positive contacts because of something like that? Absolutely not! ??
