Why Is Everyone So Busy? The Great Modern Mystery

Why Is Everyone So Busy? The Great Modern Mystery

Why are people so busy all the time? You call their personal mobile phones, and no one answers. You call their work phones, and no one answers, or worse, they answer, but they’re “in a meeting!” You WhatsApp them, two grey ticks, or worse, two blue ticks, followed by radio silence. What am I missing here? Are people now getting paid for the calories they burn?

The Busy Badge of Honor

First off, let’s address the elephant in the room: being busy has become a badge of honor. It’s like people are in a competition to see who can be the busiest as if the busiest person wins a gold star or a lifetime supply of coffee. Gone are the days when people bragged about their leisurely weekends. Now, it’s all about who had the most back-to-back meetings.

“Oh, you had time to breathe today? Lucky you. I’ve been holding my breath since 8 AM, and I’m practically turning blue, but hey, it’s all in a day’s work!"

The Vanishing Act

Seriously, where is everyone? You call, and it’s like they’ve vanished into thin air. Personal mobile? Straight to voicemail. Work phone? They’re “in a meeting.” WhatsApp? Two blue ticks, and then... nothing. It’s like everyone has become a master magician, perfecting the art of disappearing just when you need them most.

“Oh, sorry I missed your call! I was... um... in a tunnel. Underwater. On the moon."

The Meeting Mirage

And let’s talk about these meetings. Are people really in that many meetings, or is it just the perfect excuse? I imagine some folks schedule fake meetings just to avoid human interaction.

“I’d love to help, but I’m in a meeting. Yes, a very important meeting with, uh, myself. We’re discussing urgent matters of the utmost importance. Like what to have for lunch."

The Digital Dilemma

Then there’s the digital communication conundrum. Two grey ticks on WhatsApp? Fine, they haven’t seen it yet. But two blue ticks followed by radio silence? That’s just cruel. It’s like they opened the message, decided it wasn’t worth their time, and moved on to more pressing matters, like watching cat videos or organizing their sock drawer.

“Oh, I saw your message. I just decided that responding would interfere with my incredibly busy schedule of pretending to be busy."

The Calorie Theory

So what’s the deal? Are people getting paid according to the calories they burn while multitasking? Are we living in a world where the busiest bee gets the honey? Maybe it’s a new diet fad: the Busyness Burn. The more you rush around, the more calories you consume, and the more successful you appear.

"I’ve burned 500 calories today just by dodging calls and ignoring texts. Who needs a gym when you have a never-ending to-do list?"

The Reality Check

All sarcasm aside, maybe it’s time to rethink our obsession with busyness. Being constantly “in a meeting” or “too busy” isn’t a badge of honor; it’s a sign that something’s off. Perhaps we need to learn the art of prioritizing, setting boundaries, and, dare I say it, relaxing. Because at the end of the day, being perpetually busy doesn’t necessarily mean you’re productive—it just means you’re exhausted.

So, next time you find yourself bragging about how busy you are, take a moment to breathe. Answer that call. Respond to that message. Remember, life isn’t a competition to see who can be the busiest. Sometimes, the most productive thing you can do is nothing at all.

Oh, you read my mind.. Maybe not responding will elevate their self worth?????? Courtesy, Respect, Humbleness and Kindness are missed..

So true... Why not proposing a new English concept to be added the dictionary: "Busycation". We can also elaborate a course for it: "Communication skills vs Busycation skills".
