Why Every Story Matters

A few weeks ago we started a little campaign here at Life Without Barriers called 'Every Story Matters'.

We have so much negativity in the news cycle which is now on a constant 24 hour churn. It can be deflating to constantly read terrible things happening across the country and the globe and yet, we know there are incredible stories happen in the big and small moments across each day, week, month and year.

Every Story Matters is about rebalancing the narrative, about taking time to focus on good things and share moments that bring a smile or which restore your faith in human kindness and achievement. The campaign is not just about stories from our own organisation, we are aiming to share stories from across the country and stories from our partners and create genuine positivity and perhaps even some inspiration.

"You cannot be what you cannot see"

Recently we shared a story about a partnership between our organisation and Sydney University to support young people in care to see, touch and experience what going to university might be like. For many kids in care, this might feel too challenging and out of reach. But this lovely partnership supports young people in out-of-home care to visit the grounds of Sydney University and speak to staff and see what is possible. One of the young people Tim* who is 16 years old, said “I didn’t want to come today because I was nervous, but now I’m having so much fun. I think I would consider coming here in the future,”.

It is the simple things. Opportunity, time, a belief in each person that can make the difference. You can read more on this story at our website https://www.lwb.org.au/news/life-without-barriers-and-sydney-university-launch-new-education-program/

One of the most fantastic things about the care sector is the opportunity we have to see the best of what it can mean to be part of a movement. Every Story Matters is about choosing to look towards progress, innovation, collectively caring and community.

I know our team are so keen to profile and share wonderful stories from other organisations too. Email them via [email protected]
