Why Every Child Deserves a Shot at Success

Why Every Child Deserves a Shot at Success

Children have no control over which family they are born in. A child not getting the same opportunities as their peer just because they weren’t born into a privileged family is just unfair. No matter how much disparity exists among adults (that isn’t justified either), a child shouldn’t be made to feel any less.

Growing up in Ghana, I faced many challenges and obstacles that could have easily derailed my dreams. But despite the odds, I became the first black male skeleton athlete from Africa and represented my country on the global stage. My journey wasn’t easy, but it taught me a valuable lesson: every child, regardless of background, deserves a chance to succeed.

Every Child Has Potential

Every child is born with immense potential. They have dreams, talents, and abilities waiting to be discovered and nurtured. However, not all children have the same opportunities to realize their potential. Many face barriers such as poverty, lack of access to education, and limited resources. These obstacles can stifle their dreams and prevent them from achieving their goals.

I was fortunate to have people who believed in me and provided me with opportunities to grow. My journey to becoming Ghana’s first skeleton olympian just goes to show the power of potential when given a chance. I firmly believe that if we provide every child with the right support and opportunities, they can achieve greatness.

Children are the Future

All children are a part of our next generation, the generation that will lead the generation to come. We will retire from our roles, and these children will continue. Giving all children an equal chance to succeed will maximize the potential of the entire generation. Imagine the quality of joint potential they’ll have when every child is given access to tools and resources to grow and groom.

Equal Opportunities Will Break the Cycle of Poverty

One of the most significant barriers to success for many children is poverty. Poverty limits access to quality education, healthcare, and other essential resources. It creates a cycle that is difficult to break, trapping families in a perpetual state of struggle. However, when we invest in children and provide them with the tools they need to succeed, we can break this cycle.

Education is a powerful tool for breaking the cycle of poverty. It opens doors to new opportunities and provides children with the skills and knowledge they need to build better futures.

I’m the first black male skeleton athlete from Africa. I belonged to an underserved community but didn’t stay confined to the walls the society built for me. I broke the barriers and worked tirelessly to become who I am today.

If I hadn’t been given an opportunity simply because I didn’t belong to the privileged population, not only would I have stayed in the same conditions I was born into, but all the children I’m helping through my foundation, Hope of a Billion, would have continued to live a miserable, hopeless life. Empowering one child empowers an entire family. Empowering children of a community empowers the entire community!
