Why Even CEOs Need Advice
It’s no secret that?CEOs need advice. In fact, many of them are constantly seeking it out from various sources. But what’s less well known is that even CEOs need to be held accountable for taking that advice and turning it into action.
In my experience, the CEOs/company owners whose companies are doing the least well are the ones who are looking for advice but failing to take it. They hear all these great ideas, but rather than putting in the time and effort necessary to make them happen, they simply go back to their regular routines seemingly believing that knowing what action to take is enough. It is not!

Here is some of my best advice for CEOs – based on my years of experience:
Accept that you Can’t Do it Alone.
It’s not a sign of weakness to admit that you can’t handle everything yourself. In fact, it’s likely the contrary: recognizing this can actually be one of your strongest traits as a leader.
Find an Accountability Partner.
It might be someone in your organization, or perhaps it’s a trusted friend or family member who will keep you on track. But what’s important is that you have someone who will help you put together a solution action plan and make sure you’re meeting milestones.
Don’t Be Afraid to Make Changes.
If you’re not getting the results you want, that’s likely because you’re not making the needed changes. It’s easy to fall into a rut and simply tell yourself that you’ll get to it “as soon as I finish…”, but that kind of thinking is unlikely to lead you anywhere good.
So if you’re a CEO struggling with getting your company on track, understand that even the best leaders need outside advice from time to time. And once you have that advice, make sure you’re taking action on it rather than just letting it sit idly by. After all, the only person who can really change things for the better is you.
This leads us to the advice…
Quality of the Advice
The quality of the advice is not the problem; it’s the propensity for the receiver of that advice to jump back into the daily grind, telling themselves, “I’ll get to it as soon as I finish…”
That simply won’t cut it. If you’re looking for actual results, you need to find someone who can help you put together a solution action plan and hold you accountable for meeting its milestones.
People need sounding boards, even high-performing CEOs.
I dare say especially high-performing CEOs.

If this is you, it’s time to take action– because as long as things continue on the same path, they’re only going to worsen. After all, I’ve run nine companies myself, and I know firsthand how important accountability is in making sure that things actually get done. Otherwise, it’s too easy to let good advice go to waste.
