Why EPIC Subsurface Irrigation is the way forward for Desert Environments

EPIC Passive Subsurface Irrigation, also known as EPIC, is a type of buried irrigation apparatus in which water is delivered directly to the root zone of plants through capillary rise physics of sand towards the surface of the soil. There are several benefits to using EPIC subsurface irrigation compared to traditional surface irrigation methods:

  1. Water conservation: EPIC Subsurface irrigation can help reduce water usage by delivering water directly to the root zone of plants, reducing the amount of water lost to evaporation and runoff. EPIC has demonstrated time and again consistent water savings of between 50- 85% vs traditional irrigation.
  2. Increased crop yields: Because EPIC subsurface irrigation delivers water directly to the root zone, plants are able to absorb more water and nutrients, leading to increased crop yields.
  3. Reduced weed growth: Weeds are less likely to grow in areas where EPIC subsurface irrigation is used because the water is delivered below the surface, reducing the amount of moisture available for weed growth.
  4. Reduced erosion: EPIC Subsurface irrigation can help reduce erosion by limiting the amount of water that is applied to the surface of the soil, preventing the wash-away of topsoil.
  5. Improved water quality: Subsurface irrigation can help reduce the risk of water contamination by reducing the amount of water that comes into contact with the surface of the soil, where contaminants may be present.
  6. And finally EPIC subsurface irrigation is arguably the world's only subsurface apparatus that was developed to interface with sand and never clog! The fact that it does that very efficiently allows the achievement of NET ZERO Water Irrigation by using other forms of liquids such as untreated Grey water, Blackwater and seawater. In traditional irrigation, holes or emitters would instantly get clogged which doesn't allow such solutions to be offered.
