Why Entrepreneurship is not just for Business Students?

Entrepreneurship is for Everyone

Do you have to be a founder of a company to be an “entrepreneur”? Do you have to start a business to be “entrepreneurial”? Well, I would say anyone can be entrepreneurial. Not everyone wants to start their own company or owns a business - but they sure could be entrepreneurial. They can be a doctor, or a teacher, a banker, an artist or even an accountant in a large corporate - but entrepreneurial in their own respective field and job scope.

It's a Mindset

It’s about the way you approach challenges and mistakes. It’s about challenging conventional thinking, going out of the box and constantly analysing to find a more creative, simpler or more effective way to go about doing something. It is definitely a mindset anyone can pick up, not just business owners.

Do you have to major in Business to be entrepreneurial?

Of course not! You can study Design, Engineering, IT, Arts, or anything you want. Entrepreneurship is not a subset of Business - but probably the other way round. An arts student could pick up and adopt an entrepreneurial mindset, not just business students. 

You are your own CEO!

Think of it from a new perspective - Everyone is a sole proprietor of an enterprise; namely your own career. You are the CEO of “You”. You build your own career in an entrepreneurial way and set yourself up for bigger successes. You set a vision, open up new markets for yourself, constantly build your “product”, and take initiatives to own what you do. Well, even if you’re an employee of a company, you can be an entrepreneur in your role. You don’t have to conform to having an “employee mindset”.

So, what are you waiting for? Change your mindset and go be entrepreneurial!
