Why engage a recruiter in a candidate rich market?

In a market where there are more candidates than jobs and each vacancy is receiving thousands of applications, it may make sense to go approach the market directly, but experience tells us this isn't always the right option. So why should you work with a recruiter for your next hire?
Time.
It seems obvious but working with a recruiter saves an incredible amount of time. A good recruiter is able to truly understand your business, the skills you need and values fit you are looking for to hire for the long term. Our job is to go to market and find you the best possible people, only putting forward those who meet the brief. By working in partnership with someone who understands your pain points when recruiting means that you can invest just a little of your time and can reap the benefits whilst we do the hard work.
Brand Awareness.
Recruiters talk in detail to potential candidates about your business, the journey you are on and how they may be able to make an impact. They are able to really highlight the benefits of working with you and your business, often to fantastic candidates who may not have considered working with you previously.
Reputation.
From recent conversations, companies are receiving upwards of 1000 applications for each vacancy, each one hopeful of progression to the next stage in the process and an opportunity to work with your company. It is so important to consider the human element in all of this, each and every application needs a response so that they can manage their expectations. People really do remember those companies they applied to and never heard back from but a reputable recruiter will take ownership of this, protecting your brand on the market.
People.
As recruiters, we build relationships with the people we are working with. We find out what is important to them on their job search, what they can be flexible about and what they can't compromise on. By getting to know them, we are able to work through any challenges as they arise and avoid any nasty surprises at the end of the process. So often things can fall over at the last minute through what can be a simple misunderstanding but we are on hand to help both sides overcome any issues. Nearly every placement comes with questions and queries along the way and working with a recruiter offers candidates the opportunity to discuss these openly without jeapardising this.
Open and honest.
Conversations with reputable and high quality recruiters are open and honest from both sides. We talk to candidates about their feedback after interviews and their thoughts on all aspects of an opportunity. We talk to hiring managers about their thoughts on each candidate they meet and work with them to see if any skills gaps can be overcome. We can offer our experience and knowledge in a professional, impartial and consultative way.
More options.
We often challenge hiring managers to think outside the person they think they need and open their options to some fantastic candidates they wouldn't have even considered on paper. It is so important that a new hire is aligned to the values of business and the team and we encourage people to look at those candidates who will impact the business in the long term and who may have been overlooked.
So whilst on the surface it may seem unnecessary to work with a recruiter in this market, it can really make a difference to the process and the calibre of individual you eventually hire. The key is finding the right one to work with your business.
