This weekend I went to a tango festival. It was the first time I was ever away from my daughter and I was stricken with anxiety even though I consciously knew everything would be fine (and it was). All of that anxiety went away the moment I began dancing.
I desperately needed this break as it’s so easy to get stuck into the daily routines, mountains of responsibilities, and the constant doing. And I was reminded of how much we can get stuck in the duties of motherhood (or just plain ol’ adult responsibilities), forgetting the playfulness and fun of our younger years. And how we need both to truly feel alive and embodied.
There is a need to feel the element of fire when it’s been dampened or put out by the demands of motherhood, a business, a career, etc. When we are living comfortably numb and burned out, we must make space to reignite the spark of life that brings us back in harmony and take time to mother and nurture ourselves on a regular basis through creative pursuits.
Long before I became a mother, it was also challenging to rip myself away from my work for a few days and disconnect. My anxiety would skyrocket. Yet, my most creative endeavors, such as my Wild Wisdom concept, came to me after being on retreats with horses in the middle of the desert for several days. Why? Because I gave myself space to drop into my well of creativity and took time to renew my energy and spirit.
When I first learned about the feminine archetypes in business, I was struck by how many female entrepreneurs are stuck in the imbalance of mothering energy in their business. I witnessed these imbalances play out in every single one of my private clients.
??Lack of client boundaries
??Constant worrying and perfectionism
??Being in constant fear
??Micromanaging the day-to-day operations and team
??Sacrificing personal needs and family for the business
??Prioritizing business over lifestyle
On some level, it’s deeply ingrained in us as women to default to this mode. And it’s easy to not even realize we’re doing this or not know what we need to come back into balance.?
There is a strong need to invite our maiden energy back in and accept all parts of ourselves, youthful, creative, playful, as well as wise, responsible and nurturing, in order to feel alive and whole again. That’s what dancing does for me and it’s one of my top priorities in my life. And it’s also why I am now making space again for getaways.?
Whether it leads to inspiring new creative works, entrepreneurial endeavors or a reinvention of your career path, you must make space for your creativity and your energy to renew on a regular basis.?

6 个月I can relate to this so much Alyssa Pfennig. I used to really beat myself up with guilt and shame, especially when I would have to take a work trip out of town. It was an internal struggle for so long. I love that dancing enables you to be fully present to the NOW, allowing you to feel that sense of freedom that we ALL deserve to feel no matter the circumstances. Keep playing and dancing because you are teaching your daughter what it means to LIVE and be FREE, enjoying and savoring life!
