GenAI tools like ChatGPT have taken the world by storm, promising to revolutionize the way we work. But here's the puzzling thing: despite the initial excitement, we find that employee adoption and usage often take a nosedive over time. It's got us scratching our heads - why are hundreds of millions of employees finding it so challenging to unlock the full potential of GenAI?
Our mission has always been around making AI accessible to everyone, anytime anywhere and so we've been trying to get to the bottom of this adoption rollercoaster. After hundreds of interviews, we've identified three key reasons behind the struggle:
- Workflow Integration: Let's face it, figuring out how and where to inject AI into daily tasks can be a head-scratcher for many employees. Without a clear roadmap or some solid training, they're left to navigate this new landscape on their own. The result? Underutilized tools and a whole lot of untapped potential.
- Customization: Off-the-shelf GenAI tools are undeniably impressive, but the real magic happens when you tailor them to your specific needs. Take assessing financial models, for example. A generic ChatGPT window might not cut it, but a custom-built GPT with the right tweaks and prompts could be a game-changer. The problem? Most employees don't have the technical chops to make it happen.
- UX/UI:? Let's not sugarcoat it - many current GenAI platforms can be a bit of a maze. Complex interfaces, limited onboarding support, and a lack of clear direction can leave employees feeling like they're navigating a labyrinth blindfolded. It's no wonder frustration and disengagement are common pitfalls
So, what's the solution? We've been toying with the idea of a new platform designed to bridge the gap between GenAI's promise and the adoption realities employees face. Picture this:
- Workflow-Specific Guidance: Imagine having a trusty sidekick that provides tailored guidance on integrating GenAI into your specific tasks and processes. Industry-specific templates, use case libraries, and step-by-step tutorials could be the secret sauce to driving adoption and maximizing productivity.
- Customization Made Easy: What if the power of customization was accessible to everyone, no matter their technical background? Intuitive drag-and-drop interfaces, pre-built templates, and guided prompts could empower users to easily tailor GenAI to their unique needs. The result? Highly specialized AI tools that pack a serious punch in their domains.
- User-Centric Design Let's put the user experience front and center. We're talking personalized onboarding, contextual support, and an interface that feels like a breath of fresh air. By creating a platform that employees actually enjoy using (vs. the design of current platforms that often feels intimidating), we could crack the code to sustained adoption and long-term value.
Despite the excitement around GenAI, employee adoption often fizzles out. Our 100,000 users keep pointing us to three key reasons: the struggle to integrate AI into workflows, technical barriers to customization, and frustrating user experiences. But what if the solution lies in the tools themselves? We believe a platform offering workflow-specific guidance, easy customization, and user-centric design can empower employees to harness GenAI's true potential.
Clearly, building a brand new platform that's rooted in user experience and learning is no easy task, but it's not a question of if, but when. I’m convinced that someone has to build this platform; otherwise, we won't really be able to ensure everyone benefits from this incredible technology.
