Why Employee Well-Being is the New Workplace Superpower

Personal Well-being is having a moment in the workplace.

I remember joining the workforce.? I was a fresh face right out of college, hopeful to learn and climb the corporate ladder.? My dream was to successfully lead a group of people.??

To reach that goal, I believed in hard work, kindness, and showing up.? I still do.

But I never even considered “personal well-being”.? It wasn’t even in our vocabulary back then.??

However, I did believe in balance.? In working smart, using time management to my advantage.? And taking personal time to relax and rejuvenate.? Long hours at work were never my thing because I thought that represented poor time management. ?

But now personal well-being is a thing.? And I couldn’t be happier to see that.? As a believer of all things Emerge Positive, it is the healthy way to live life.? It’s also the way to create a healthy future and get the most out of your journey.? So I’ve jumped right on the personal well-being band wagon too.??

And as it turns out, I’m not the only one.

??

Just last week, Gallup released a report showing personal well-being as the number one thing employees are looking for in a job.

What Workers Want


Why It Matters

Employees are watching for or actively seeking new job opportunities at the highest rate since 2015 — 51% are exploring new options.

At the same time, employee satisfaction is at a record low, fueling what Gallup calls the Great Detachment: an era in which people are feeling increasingly disconnected from their employer.

Understanding what employees value most in a job provides a strong foundation for improving an organization's recruiting, retention and employee value proposition strategies.


Placing this concept of well-being front and center of all people is very timely.

People all across the country - and even worldwide - are feeling uncomfortable and unsettled.? Our foundation doesn’t feel stable.? And that is creating a lot of fear and threatening our personal well-being.?

Taking time to create a personal routine to exercise, center yourself and create peace within each day is crucial to your well-being, your mindset and your overall performance and productivity.? This is your responsibility to take for yourself.? And only you can do it.? So put yourself, your health and your future at the top of your priority list.

Companies can also step up here by creating an environment that is Open - where leaders listen to their employees and allow all feedback to be expressed.? This is how a company grows, learns, and gets better.

When an employee feels seen and heard, they are more likely to work harder and be loyal to the company.

This is truly essential as we see so many become detached and disconnected; a recipe for poor productivity, performance, and morale.

Each of us are human.? We all need to be seen and heard.? And we feel better when it happens.? So let’s make it a priority in the workplace.? Practice kindness, equality, and compassion in our leadership.??

For us all, we can be a beacon of hope.? Be an example of a person who puts their personal well-being as a priority and illustrate the positive outcomes that come from it.? You can be the spark.

As Mahatma Gandhi said, ‘Be the change you wish to see in the world.’

It begins with one.? It begins with You and your dedication to your personal well-being.
