Why employee health and wellbeing should be at the top of every MD’s agenda...
Everyone leads an increasingly stressful life, juggling work and home life and finding it difficult to get the perfect balance. Ultimately your own health and wellbeing gets put to the bottom of the list! Worryingly, according to the 2018 Mental Health at Work Report, 61% of employees experience a mental health issue due to a work related factor. This kind of statistic isn’t ok.
It is extremely important to have a workforce that is healthy, happy and engaged; the recruitment sector has been identified as one of the most stressful environments, with 82% of recruitment consultants regularly feeling stressed at work.
Physical and mental wellbeing should be at the top of every MD’s agenda. This is why I have put it at the top of mine.
PMP Recruitment is taking a preventative and proactive approach to wellbeing, focussing on the individual. We have set up a health and wellbeing initiative that involves a 10 week boot camp programme encouraging colleagues from across the Cordant Group to improve their health - taking one hour, every Thursday, to focus on themselves, their fitness and mobility.
The awareness that the health and wellbeing programme will generate across the Group will go a great way for promoting a healthy work-life balance whilst encouraging colleagues to chat to their peers about any mental or physical health problems they may be having.
The Chartered Institute of Personnel and Development (CIPD) found that health and wellbeing activity boosts engagement and overall morale, which can be a core enabler of employee engagement and organisational performance. Encouraging better work and working lives not only contributes to businesses but it also deliver mutual benefits to colleagues and societies.
Workplaces are changing and the demands it puts on employers and employees means that we can’t be complacent. We need to continually evolve and adapt to understand the impact on colleague health and wellbeing.
We are extremely proud to say that health and wellbeing is a priority and excited to see where our initiative will take us.

5 年Great article Jamie, so encouraging to see a company actually acting on these issues. There may be costs incurred for the time you're giving your staff but the benefits will be seen long term! Top stuff!
